Learn More About Public Service

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Symposium on public service will be conducted on November 22 and 24; it was confirmed yesterday by the Deputy Director of the Management Services Department, Sharifah Fatmah Shaikh Haji Ahmad, who is also the symposium's deputy chairperson.

The Public Service Strategic Planning Symposium was first introduced on the month of January 2003 by the Public Services of Brunei Darussalam, as part of the government's initiative to increase the quality, standard and effectiveness of the nation's public services.

The upcoming symposium will be the third to be held so far.

The main objective of the conference is to support and help government agencies ensure that the management of their projects or activities are in line with the country's ambition, development plan and also the objectives of public service's vision for the 21st century.

According to the deputy chairperson, all government ministries will be involved in the event.

The theme of the symposium, which will be held at the international Convention

Centre, is "In alignment with a strategic plan: Development, Issues, Challenges and Action."

Some of its objectives include identifying issues that need to be aligned and improving coordination and strategic communication between the ministries involved.

There will be four sessions altogether, where each session will feature representatives from three different ministries, each of whom talk on a specific topic for 30 minutes.

Expected to attend are permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, heads of departments, deputy heads of departments, assistant heads of departments and senior officers from all ministries.

The symposium will launched by Dato Paduka Haji Eusoff Agaki Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister of Prime Minister Office and guest of honour for the event.

The symposium is in line with the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in conjunction with the 21st National Day.

In the titah, the monarch called for every ministry and government department to identify issues that have national importance and to discuss and tackle these issues.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
