In his speech, the guest of honour called for a study in a project described as `Methods of Teaching Religious Subjects.'
He expressed hopes that the project could become a topic of study, receiving the full attention of the university college and hopefully achieving results within a two-year time frame.
He spoke in reference to the over 3,000 teachers having studied and faced difficulties/challenges ever since 1972, specifically in the field of teaching and learning.
The guest of honour believes their experience, collectively, is extremely valuable.
The minister also pointed out that experience acquired by these religious teachers over nearly 50 years could be used by educational institutions such as the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College.
"Their experience needs to be gathered and researched specifically in terms of delivery methods of religious subjects to the students. These methods, if studied and gathered properly, can be a valuable treasure in the field of religious teaching and learning," he added.
It is also a form of donation in making easier the delivery methods of religious subjects as well as enriching the treasure of religious education in the field of religious teaching and learning.
"It can be said that the method of teaching and learning religious subjects is not as easy as in the case of academic subjects," he said.
Later, the minister congratulated the 155 graduates from Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College - who received their Religious Teachers Certificate and the 12 trained religious teachers, who were presented their Continued Learning in Al-Quran Reading Course Certificates.
The minister also urged the teachers of the university college to continuously raise the level of efforts in teaching and educating the students effectively so that Islam can be practised in their daily lives as a way of life that is completely in line with the concept of MIB (Melayu Islam Beraja). Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College Ra'es Deputy Duty Officer Dr Haji Abdullah bin Haji Awang Lampoh also spoke at the event.
"In the context of `Lifelong Learning,' the role of a teacher is to instil the habit and spirit of learning in a student so that they can increase their knowledge throughout their lives for a better future.
"Teachers should also instil the habit and spirit of 'Lifewide Learning' in a student to increase their social-thinking, physical and mental health, and skills that may be important to them," he said.
In this respect, Dr Haji Abdullah highlighted the need to merge the concept of `Lifelong Learning' with the concept of 'Lifewide Learning,' which is in line with the Islamic teaching.
The convocation signified a stepping stone for advancement in terms of teaching and allowed the certificate recipients to become competent, knowledgeable and intelligent teachers. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
