Times Have Changed

I have been working hard with little time to play. On Sunday morning, it was a glorious day, so I went for a walk up to the Penshaw monument. I had the misfortune of meeting a local who was an expert on all things in the area, who felt that I needed to know them also. I was given a half hour diatribe on everything from the names of the people who designed and biult the monument, it's exact dimensions, the locations of the quarries the rock came from, to the name of the 16 year old kid Archie something, who climbed up to the top one night in 1906 and fell off, killing himself. My guess is that he might have had a pint or two prior to falling off. (That guess would be solely based on it's geographic proximity to Scotland). Anyhow, it is a monument to the Governor General of Canada in 1844 or there abouts, so a a patriotic Canuck, I listened. The view was nice. Not sure what a Greek temple has to do with Canada though. I guess the Brits think us Colonials live in igloos or sleep on the ground as they forgot the roof.

Driving into work yesterday, I was feeling a little dehydrated, so I grabbed a water for the ride. I was hiding the bottle on my lap and sneaking drinks quickly, so the cops didn't catch me and give me a fine. I think it is about a $50 or $100 fine if you are caught drinking or eating anything while driving in Britian. I remember growing up in Canada where you would hide your beer between your legs and sneak a drink so the cops didn't catch you and take your beer away. Times have changed.
Cheers
