Pre-Run Day Two
Monday, November 13, 2006 2:11:12 AM
We were greeted this morning by our first flat tire. After getting it fixed, along with a few other maintenance items we were under way. We re-ran the same course as yesterday and completed a total of 125 miles including highway riding.
The course is staring to show its wear from all the pre-run traffic. The ruts are wider, silt deeper and rocks bigger. Or at least they look that way. Still, it is incredibly scenic, and a truly beautiful country.
Here are a couple pics from a mid way point in our ride. There is a small climb up this summit, about 1000ft. from sea level, which is where we started.

In Mexico the building construction is a “pay-as-you-go” type event. As such, we took advantage of a resting spot, which will some day be someone’s porch.
A favorite pastime in Baja is the painting of rocks. Here one is painted as an alligator (or is that a crocodile?). Not sure why, but I deemed it appropriate to ride the bike on it, and Scott saddled it and rode it.
This is Martin (pronounced Marteen). We had to pay him a bribe (mordito) for a parking pass and security. Obviously he approved as indicated by his thumbs-up and satisfied look on his face.
Feel free to write your own caption for this one.
This is Bryan’s favorite eatery in Baja. When I went to take a picture the workers recognized me and asked me “where is the Gringo that eats mucho?”. Bryan, they miss you buddy. It’s been almost five months since he’s been there, but oh yes, they remember him.
We ran into this guy at our wi-fi hot spot. The shirt speaks for itself.
Tomorrow night I will be trying to contact the other guys (American Brento, Timmy Mo, Korny, American Brian, Matt Peternel, etc..) on the team via sat phone(s) so that I may post their update. They should be in full bore pre-run mode, and I am anxious to hear from them.
P.S. By the way Race Dog, I read your comment on the latest blog posting. It brings me great joy to tell you we got this fit by eating your sister at a taco stand.
