Stewardship

We were able to reach Timmy Mo and Matt P. today via sat phones. They had a chance to pre-run Matt’s section, which is a 220 mile section. They said that the course looked good and their day was a successful one. We were unable to contact the rest of the team tonight, but I suspect that they are still out on the course pre-running. We have a planned call period tomorrow night between 8-9 P.M. I hope to have an update from American Brian, American Brent(o) and Korny then.
Scott and I ran another short section on the lower end of my section. A fairly high speed section with plenty of opportunities for wrecks, but that’s part of the gig.
Here is a picture of Scott’s air filter after wrecking in a silt bed. Once up-righting the bike, the engine was flooded with fuel. We tried to start it and it backfired, burning the air filter. But, we did not know it at the time. We rode another 50 miles without a filter. Oops.
The Mexican Army, chilling.
It is said that one of the measures of stewardship can be determined by asking a simple question: Did you leave an environment better then when you arrived? So in the spirit of this simple but elegant test, and in the quest of stewardship, Scott and I did our part. As a bonus, we made a few friends in the process.

Those are the same Army guys that were partying with Javier when I crashed. Ask the guy on the right if I can have my flashlight back yet, but wait until he isn't holding a gun.
