Race Day

The Start flag dropped at about 7:15 A.M. I rode the first 125 miles. The dust and fog were very heavy, and as a result the average speed for the field was dropped dramatically. My goal was 40 MPH out of Ensenada, I averaged 31 MPH to race mile 60 then upped the speed in the clean air to around 45 MPH. I then handed the bike to Brian at 10:50 A.M. My brother had left a bike at the rider swap point, and I rode it on the road to the next pit stop where Brian would be swapping tires and air filter. He averaged an incredible 55 MPH from pit two to pit three in very thick dust. In fact, in this same area later in the race a four wheel race car hit a parked vehicle at speed and the drivers were air lifted to San Felipe for medical attention.
Anyways, while the details are still sketchy, it’s sounds like Brian got a rear flat in his section. He rode the flat into a pit, where the repaired it, incorrectly. He then promtply rode our KTM into a Team Honda pit, where they assisted him and got him going again. I suspect we lost two hours over this.
I spoke with Timmy and he tells me Brian handed the bike to Matt at 4:15 P.M. Timmy was expecting Matt at around 8:00 P.M. where he (Timmy) will ride it until about 10:45 P.M. and pass it off to Korny.
As a side note, my brother ate clam linguine last night and as a result ended up with shellfish poisoning. Never the less, he drove the truck (with many stops along the way) to the designated pit and was set up and waiting.
More updates when I get them.
