Racing Cars and Iron Women

Kim's cousin Rocky races Sportsman Class in the Katana Power Boat Series at some of the BC Tracks. The other weekend he was racing at Agassiz Racetrack,
so we went out to cheer him on. Perhaps we should have stayed home, as he seemed to pick up some Fat Guy Follies luck. No he didn't get a flat tire, it was much worse, he broke a ball joint and sway bar in the heat race. The two cars in front of him spun, and he got collected as he tried the high line around. They worked hard and got the car back together, thanks in part to the lack of organization at the track. Luck was still not with him. Due to the DNF in the heat race, he had to start the main at the back of the pack. He was working his way up, when a valve train problem sidelined the car.
We stopped round the pits after the race to console him, and Crew Chief Tanya.
Eric thinks that driving race cars will be lots of fun, and is practicing already.
From the title of this post, I know you will be thinking that I am going to write about Margaret Thatcher but no, that topic is too controversial on the EK Hill, so I am writing about the fitness type. The 25th Iron Man Canada Triathalon was held last weekend in Penticton. An Iron Man race is a 3.8 km swim, followed by a 180 km bike ride, and then a full marathon 42.2 km. Paula McGraw competed again this year, and we cheered her on.
She is somewhere out there swimming with 2400 other people. That is a mass of people swimming on the outside of the orange markers. 3.8 kms!!! I get tired doing a lap in my bath tub!
Eric was more concerned about the food than any cheering. We stopped at the Bear Fruitstand in Keremeos to offer encouragement before the last big hill to Yellow Lake, and Eric discovered peaches and pears. The diapers were not such a treat after that.
Congratulations to Paula for even thinking about competing in such an event, let alone completing it.
Cheers
