Baja

We got a late start today, as we had to complete bike repairs from the day before. See, after we had rode all day through the desert, when we were within 100 yards of the hotel, a portion of the muffler from my motorcycle fell off. So, after a trip to the auto parts store, then the hardware store, we had the items needed to repair it.
American Steve making an early morning repair. He's been rock solid.

Our plan was to ride about 100 miles of course today. However, once out on the course we were greeted by a new rode cut into the virgin desert of Baja. It was awful, just awful. It slowed our forward progress considerably. We were all impressed by Canadian Steve. For someone who has only been riding a couple of years, he did very well in some difficult terrain. He still overshot a few corners, but for the most part, stayed upright.
We are trying to perpetuate our tradition of giving back when in Baja. Here, we took our turn working the traffic control at a highway construction project.
Here is the back of our teams race shirts, they turned out nice, and this is a shot of the actual race bike.

Here is a picture of the race bike.
The fastest guy on our team (Mike Korenwinder) has the nickname “Korny”. When in Mexico it is “El Korn Dog” so the quick fill cap on the gas tank reflects this.
All in all, we had a good day today, with a nice meal to cap it off. Tomorrow we have a full day planned. We are dividing up into two teams. The Steve’s will go ride the beach section while Brent and I ride the entire section I will be racing. Then, the Steve’s will pick us up and we will ride in the truck the 100 miles back to the hotel.
Sunday, my brother in-law Alan (AKA grape butt - see previous blog post for explanation) will join us to pre-run. See you on Sunday Al.

I am enjoying reading about your adventures in Mexico. God luck on the upcoming race. Ride hard but safe. The good Lord is watching over all of you.
Your t-shirt looks really nice, but I guess I'm just a little partial as it was made at California Steve's. (My son.)
Best of Luck.
