Fat Guy Follies

The Adventures of Bryan and Friends

Knock knock, who's there? Brent's Engine.

By Dan Roush
Our day started well, with good weather, and a plan of attack. Brent and I were to pre-run while The Steve's loaded the truck with bikes and drove to the beach area to explore. We would all meet up later.

The course actual improved over previous days. It was a little smoother, oddly enough. But as Baja has a way of doing, things went downhill. It began with a flat tire. Once we had installed a new tube, we realized that we did not have a air pump. Luckily, there was a buggy very near by, that had an electric pump.

Brent hard at work changing the tire.

We were on our way again with things going well. We pre-ran with two of my friends from California, Billy and Brian. They are two extremely fast and accomplished desert racers. I am pleased to report, that our very own Brent Hill gave them a run for their money over some period of time and distance. Alas, he was overtaken, but still showed great speed and endurance. Evidently Brent gave his bike a fairly good thrashing because when we stopped at 50 miles into the course, his engine had a knock in it. Much too bad to continue. So my buddy Billy gave Brent his bike to ride while they loaded up the wounded KTM and took it home.

We stopped in a small village called San Telmo to hand out stcikers to the kids.

We did manage to get all 177 race course miles in again today. After the Steve’s finished their day riding at the beach they came and picked Brent and I up for a two and a half hour drive home.
