Race Day

By Dan Roush
There was a wet course awaiting us. However, it turned out to be a blessing. Over the 177 mile section that I rode there was virtually no dust. Nada. As a result, the section that we had anticipated taking approximately 7 hours to complete was covered in 5 hours flat. When we swaped riders we were 8th out of 14 in class 30 Pro Motorcycle.

Here is a picture of the bike arriving at the rider swap point.

Here is a picture of Mike Johnson (rider #2) preparing for his section.

As soon as the bike arrived the pit crew went to work installing lights, swaping the rider “care package”, adding oil, etc..

After Mike took off with the bike my brother in law (Alan – AKA grape butt – see the early blog post for details) stayed around and waited for the trophy trucks to come through. Alan captured this shot of one the monsters in full drift.

Later in the day the NBC helicopter flew by, at the same time a local was riding their horse by the course against the flow of race traffic. Alan also caught this shot of them in the same frame. This image speaks volumes about racing in Mexico.

Last we have heard the bike MAY be in 2nd place. We tried to reach the crew tonight to confirm, with no luck, as soon as we hear something, I will post it.
