Race Update: The end is in sight

Hi, this is Bryan. Dan just left me a voice message. The bike passed through a small town called Todos Santos about 45 miles from finish at 2:04 pm PST. Barring any typical Baja Events, they should have crossed the finish line at about 2:35 pm. The Honda 1X of Steve Hengeveld, Robby Bell, Johnny Campbell and Kendall Norman riding a CRF450X was first across at 6:47 am PST. This was Johnny's 10th Baja Win
Last night I was able to get a live internet feed from the Weatherman race control radio. It was very interesting to say the least. Slightly organized chaos might be a better description. A helicopter crashed on the road to Mike's sky ranch. Tragically 2 people on board were killed, and 2 spectators were critically injured. The helicopter brought down power lines, so The Federales closed the race course until the lines could be repaired. Two chase trucks collided on the higway, seriously injuring several people. Quad 2A crashed and the rider had a compound leg fracture, he was stable, but neede transport to medical attention, but he was a long way from a road. Another bike had crashed hard but the rider was continuing on from a BFG Pit, although he looked pretty shaky. On top of these emergencies, there were about 50 teams, trying to find their racer. One team with a broken transmission had got a chase truck to the truck, but the transmission was in another chase truck, several hundred miles away, with a broken radio. It seems the Baja tests every type of technology, including communication as many teams could not communicate, Sat phones wouldn't work etc. They were probably using Globalstar, but that is another story.
I have just picked up the weatherman feed again. 703X is missing, they can't find their motorcycle, or rider. The excitement continues. Hopefully Dan will update us with more results shortly.
Cheers
