Baja Update and A Great Riding Day
Saturday, November 1, 2008 9:40:44 PM
The Baja 1000 is rapidly approaching. The course has been released, and teams are prerunning already. We have decided that there will not be any representation from Fat Guy Follies at this years 1000 mile race.
I have decided that I am not anywhere near in good enough physical condition to ride down there (not that I plan on losing any weight, I just need much more seat time (OK Peg time)). Brent and Sheldon were considering going down, but Sheldon might get a job, and Brent's bike decided to puke all the oil out the shifter seal, and the subsequent tear down revealed that some expensive bits need replacing. Koole Man has a girlfriend and has lost all interest in changing tires.
Our fearless leader, Dan went down a couple of weeks back to pre-run with Korny. He says that he felt less safe this trip than on any previous trip. The drug wars and general lawlessness are taking their toll. He heard gunfire at night, a car attempted to pull over one of the support trucks loaded with bikes, and the police seem edgy. That coupled with a back injury while riding his wife's quad in his back yard mean that none of us are going down.
Brent, Sheldon and I did get out for a fantastic 300 km ride the other Sunday. It was a bright sunny day and we made good time, over the Kookipi, all the way out to the Upper Nahatlatch.
We even stopped to look at some of the scenery
For once we had no flat tires, no injuries, no one fell off their bike, and only minor mechanical adjustments were required.
Cheers
