Holiday Pilgrimages

As we approach the end of December many faiths have festivals, rituals or pilgramages that the followers must complete. The Christians celebrate christmas, the Jews observe Chanukah, the Muslims have their Hajj or pilgrimage to Mecca. Both Kim and I made pilgrimages to worship our respective gods this past weekend.

Several years ago I made a pilgrimage to the Mecca of Beer, the home of Aurthur Guiness. This time my pilgrimage was to worhsip the gods of all things carnivorous. My place of worship was Fogo de Chão (fo-go dèe shoun), a Southern Brazilian Churrasco Restaurant, where they use the Gaucho way of roasting meats over pits of open fire for delicious barbecues. This was my fourth pilgrimage to such an altar.

The Brazilian Gaucho restaurants have many waiters, or Gauchos, that constantly circulate through the restuarant. These Gauchos are serious about meat. At Fogo de Chão you have a little drink coaster on your table, one side red, the other side is green.

You can see Kim's coaster beside her wine glass.

If you put the green side up, one of these Gauchos will stop by your table about every 10 seconds with some form of meat on a skewer. You tell him how you like it cooked and he cuts off a slice or two, you grab it with your tongs and drop it on your plate. This can go on for hours. We had sirloin, filet, rump, leg of lamb, lamb chops, pork ribs, beef ribs, chicken, sausages, chicken wrapped in bacon, the list goes on.....

I think there may have been potatoes and veggies available, but I really can't say for sure.
One word of warning though, be careful. I believe I was overserved. I know that Mick recommends eating until your belly is tight, but I was way past tight.

On Sunday Kim made her own personal pilgrimage to worship.

Unfortunately we were too late in arriving and the Oprah store was closed.

Cheers
