Golden Ears Bridge

Last month the Greater Vancouver Area finally got a new bridge, the Golden Ears Bridge. Most of the bridges are overloaded and sources of congestion, and this one is supposed to relieve the congestion on the Port Mann Bridge, but it is a toll bridge. The good news is that it is free for the first month, so we took advantage of it to explore the Pitt Meadows area - someplace we never go.

My first crossing was by bicycle, and we rode with Velo Steve in his Velomobile.

I am reasonably confident that this was the first Velomobile crossing of the bridge.

The next day, in an attempt to replace the calories burned on the push bike ride, Kim and I drove over to the Billy Miner Pub. It was built as a bank in the early 1900s, and hasn't changed much since then. It is named after a famous train robber and the man who coined the term "Hands Up". Canada has only had two train robberies, and Billy "The Grey Fox" Miner committed both of them.

The burger wasn't bad, and they serve Okanagan Spring Pale Ale, so luunch was good.

We returned via the Fort Langley (Free) Ferry, which the new toll bridge is also supposed to replace. I think the last run is at the end of July, so this was our last trip on it.
