In my last post, I showed the two yummy pans of Lasagne. Those were for the Carb Loading session. Yes I know Carb loading is passe for athletes, but it is still totally acceptable for fat guys. The Carb Loading session was because Kim, Ali and Kelly were going to run a half marathon, as training for an upcoming shopping trip. I was tricked into joining them. So early this morning we headed to White Rock.
I thought I had learned a trick at the Vancouver Half, so I stopped just before the timing pad, to let Kim start a couple of seconds ahead of me, that way if we finished together, I would still have the better time. No such luck. She almost had to carry me the last mile. The good news is that I did not finish dead last.
I narrowly edged out the only guy in the "mens over 80 years old" category. He was cheating by using a walker anyhow. The guy in the over 60 category kicked me by almost 30 minutes. Ouch.
Here we see Kim and Ali immediately after crossing the finish line.
This is me waiting for the ambulance attendants.
The first aid guys propped me up and then ran out of the picture to get this one.
I am not entering another race until they start categorizing people in weight classes, not age classes. I may actually have a chance of this happening, since it was my Engineering buddy Johnny who organised the run. The girls commented that this was the nicest route they had ever run. I had no comment, as the torrent of sweat dripping into my eyes effectively blinded me for the final 20 kms of the run.
Cheers
Off for a long long nap Bryan
