More Food

I did not post any pictures of food over the Holiday Season, despite me eating enough to go up several sizes of trousers. It was not like I shied away from eating, rather I was too pre-occupied with eating to take pictures, or my fingers were too sticky to handle the camera.

I did get a few good pictures, but alas none of the Christmas Bird, which was cooked to perfection, the stuffing passed the Bryan Stuffing Test with flying colours, and the Gravy passed the "Fork Test".

As an aside, years ago I went to a date's house for Sunday Roast beef dinner. As the food was being placed on the table, everyone surreptitiously put their fork in the gravy boat and then in their mouth. I wondered about what was going on, but did not follow suit. I proceeded to treat the gravy as a beverage. The gravy was brutal, destroying the meal. Afterwards, my date asked why I didn't "fork test" the gravy, as if this was common practice wherever gravy was served. I should point out that my date's mother did redeem herself with a better gravy, and no I am not married to that "date".

In the absence of Christmas Turkey Dinner pics, I am going to instead post some pics from the American Thanksgiving that we attended at Brenda and Jerry's. One of their Turkeys was deep fried, making for better photo opportunities.

A deep fryer is sort of like a fire. Every grabs a beer and stands around to watch. Here we have the full contingent of Turkey experts.

Notice that by the time the crucial decision as the whether the turkey is cooked or not, all the experts have disappeared.

However in this case Kurt and Joe, did just fine.

Here is Carol making the gravy which has never failed the "Fork Test"

Back to Christmas, Dinner was mastered by Donna and Carol.

Kim poured the wine for the beautifully placed table.

As the feeding frenzy died down, I was able to regain my senses enough to take a picture of Christmas desert (before having three helpings of it)

After dinner, those who could still walk we put to work on the cleanup crew.

And of course Eggs Bino for Boxing Day Breakfast.

Eric, taking somewhat after his dad is never quite satisfied with just one desert.

Cheers

Y'all know how to eat! Good lookin' people, good lookin' food.

I've never heard of the gravy fork test. It might have freaked me a little.

A lot of people are deep frying turkeys now. I've never sampled one cooked like that. I always cook mine inside a brown-in-bag and probably will forever.

You need to try a good deep fried turkey, they are good. First time I encountered it was in your part of the country years ago, I thought it was common there. It is not a replacement for an oven cooked one, no stuffing - crucial to a turkey dinner, no gravy, and no smell. There is something about spending a day in a house where the turkey is cooking that works up the appetite.

Oh, the stuffing is critical. I like it infused with oysters.

A word selection thing, in this area most people say "dressing." "Stuffing" is frequent though slightly less used. As I go north, I hear "filling" more.

I like words. up
