Fat Guy Follies

The Adventures of Bryan and Friends

Vancouver 2010

We have been fortunate enough to get to spend a couple of days downtown absorbing the Olympic Spirits, (and Food too).

One common theme is the heavy security. Lots of police everywhere. We started the Olympic party with a Opening Ceremony Party at our house.

Wandering around downtown has been really cool. Lots of crowds, lots of friendly happy people. We have met so many people downtown, and almost all of them live within 30 miles of us.

Here is a storewindow that the Butthead protesters did not smash! Millions of people having fun, 20 Idiots make the news.

On Tuesday we decided to try to pick up scalper tickets for the USA vs Switzerland Hockey game. We hit the venue about 20 minutes prior to gametime, and the first scalper we see offers us Box Seats for $125.00. This is too good to be true. He tells us he works at Molson Hockey house and is just trying to get rid of them. We pass on the tickets, check out some other scalpers, and there are no other tickets to be had. Our guy is no where to be seen now. Don't see him again until we are sitting in Irish House, watching the game on TV. The camera zooms in on our scalper sitting down in prime seats..... Poop!
We did get to view the 4D movie at Ontario house instead.

It was pretty cool. 4D means there is a MidgetElevationally challenged guy hiding under your seat, and he pokes at your legs at key points in the movie.
For those on a budget, Ontario house has a reasonable selection of Microbreweries to choose from, and CHEEP BEER. Only $6.00 at pint. Cheap is relative.

My Pint of Guiness at Irish House was $9.00, but we did score a free beer, due to confusion on my part and the guy behind the bar. $9.00 and no shamrock.

If you can take the time to pour a decent Guiness, you can take the time to put a shamrock in the head. The pint was a pretty decent pint however, one of the best I have had on this side of the pond.
This is the inside of Irish House. It gets rocking in here later in the day.

Irish House is at Nelson and Granville, behind Doolins Irish Pub.
I think the Leprachauns have been busy building Inukshuks when not hiding their gold. The shore around False Creek is covered with these.

Speaking of expensive, we were offered tickets to get into Molson Hockey house, a large beergarden tent with big TV screens, for a mere $200 a head, and no free beer. We passed and took a picture of the goalie instead.

Cheers
Oly Bryan

if you read the press over here you would think that these the worst games ever, torch not lighting, that poor guy from georgia, the weather , etc etc.however, if you watch them on tv you are hooked. I've seen the men and womens downhill(amazing), the curling (c'mon the jocks!) the snowboard racing (angus and I loved that), the one where they ski over bumps and flip through the air, and the luge (scary). Also read an article in the Times saying that Canadians are the friendlist people ever. but we knew that , right?

Being the Brian Adams fan and music aficionado you are, I thought for sure you would have commented on his lip synching at the opening ceremonies. You also missed the "Green" Battery powered Zamboni failing at the Speed Skating Oval. We have a good old Piston Engine one now. We are bringing on the hairspray next.
The British press wouldn't know a good time if the Queen belted them over the head with it, or should that be Philip?

Mick
A little more preparation on your countries part might be required too.

Either that or they should stay away from the cakes....

i know. the press here have got a cheek , seeing as we are rubbish at everything connected with snow. If London gets one inch of snow the whole country grinds to a halt and it is the top story on the news for days. We Scots are a bit better at dealing with the snow. We take a duvet day and walk to the pub. Also, London has the next summer olympics, that should be interesting! doh
