Olympic Reflections Part 2

Tonight marks the end of the Paralympics meaning the full Olympic party is now over. The Paralympics have been much more low key, and we even drove to Whistler the other day for a ski trip. The Olympic hangover is starting to pass, although I am sure people in Vancouver are friendlier than pre-Olympics. It seems more people talk to complete strangers than before, probably a result of having so many visitors to our city. To wrap up the Olympic festivities, I guess I will post the rest of our pics and tell a story. First off, after my disappointing Bratwurst at Germany House, I made it my mission to get a Olympic Mr. Tube Steak from a street vendor. Heading down town, at the top of the Skytrain stairs, they were waiting for me, and I was not disappointed.
Vancouver on a sunny day is great and the Olympics just made it better. We cruised Yaletown, admiring the shops where one can get a haircut that costs more than my truck,
Watched the Copper Cowgirl, and the Silver Elvis
And then we ran into the famous Sheriff again.
He had taken a break from guarding Lord Stanleys Cup. We have hired him as security here at the house to guard the Souper Bowl Trophy, but more on that another day.
Then we wandered over to False Creek past the boats owned by people in income brackets that stagger my imagination,
and past similarly priced apartments.
We found a nice Thai Restaurant, and stopped for some appies and refreshments. Notice no kids in the picture. I played a trick on them that kept them busy for almost 20 minutes.
After a bit more wandering, we found the Keg. This time I was able to get the kids their own table, and waiter.
At the Keg we met some representatives from the Turkish Bobsled Federation and received an invitation to dinner when we next go to Turkey. Finally we waddled our way up to another Medal Ceremony.
Theory Of A Dead Man put on a good show after the medals were awarded including Bode Miller's Silver in the Super G.
As this was a Friday evening the street party was in full swing.
Check out the guy in the rabbit ears beside Jerry.
The next morning we were up bright and early as we had tickets to watch Norway play Switzerland in Hockey. Since the Swiss were Neutral, we cheered for Norway.
Kim wouldn't let me wear my hockey helmet, so I just looked on in envy.
Thore Vikingstaad's wife and kids were sitting in the section beside us (is that an awesome Norwegian name or what??). They had a huge "Go Dad" sign, which they got to wave a lot, as he got a hat trick.
Not sure if Hockey fans in Norway throw hats on the ice, but the fans at this game sure did after his third goal. It was a good game, but alas, the Swiss won in the end.
The Swiss fans took the party to the streets.
I read an article in an American Newspaper where the columnist was decrying the Canadian Fans for their blatant Patriotism. He said that everywhere he looked he saw Canadian Flags, but not once did he see anyone sporting the Olympic Rings. I guess he didn't look hard enough.
Not sure which TV station he watched, since CTV provides the most unbiased coverage showing all events and all athletes no matter what country they are from, but whatever Gil believes......
Jerry and Brenda embraced everyone
Thus ends my very sparse Olympic coverage. I wish they were here every year - FANTASTIC
Cheers

Another nice photo tour Bryan! I still have nice memories of your Mexican trip. We're still broke from last year's vacation so will probably have to stay home this year.
