30 Years at the Hook and Ladder
Sunday, August 29, 2010 6:00:38 AM
Yesterday was the 30th Anniversary of the opening of my local (although I now live much farther away than the 14 lamp posts of old), The Hook and Ladder Pub. Big Mic, claims he was there on opening day. I won 2nd place in the Halloween contest later that first year. Neither Mic or myself were quite at legal drinking age 30 years ago though.
Inisde the Hook. It has changed a bit over the last 30 years, gone is the fireplace and raised seating area.
However something are irreverent and can not be changed, such as the poster of local girl Pamela Sue Anderson before she went under the surgeons knife.
To celebrate the event, free dinner was offered, prize draws and pictures of people who stopped in over the last 30 years we put on poster boards around the pub. I took pictures of some of the memorable ones.
Big J
Carol and Ali, a little fuzzy.
The Pirates, Mick, Bobby and yours truly
The Hook has been around through the 80s complete with required 80s hairstyles.
Or in some cases, back when certain people actually had hair.
Pig and Vicki
Back when even mullets were acceptable (I had one too)
How do you tell if the stage is level? Drool comes out of both corners of the drummers mouth.
The Winning Trike Race Banzai Team
Scott Keith Dukie and Evans
Jay and Geoff
Ellard (Our Proprietor)let everyone pose with him.

I am sure he is smiling because he is thinking of all the contributions we have made to his retirement fund.
Either that or all the fun we have had. While the posing was going on the grand prize winner of a trip for 2 to Las Vegas was announced. Mick won, and for a moment, I think Ellard was afraid he might get hurt.
I was closest to Mike when he won, so he has to take me.
After that much celebrating was in order.
Lori and Kaitlin
Kim talked about her huge tracts of land
Everyone was cheery
And after a short lock in, we headed to Lori and Andrew's for a swim
More on the adventures of Mr Peanut Head next time.
Cheers
