The other day, flying home from London, was one of those rare occasions when I was upgraded and was allowed to turn left as I boarded the plane. Partway into the flight I discovered that the first class toilets are larger, posher and have a window, when compared to the washrooms at the back. Later I discovered that someone had closed the window shades. Privacy at 60 000 ft?

It reminds me of one time I was on a long-distance bus going from Guadalajara to Mexico City. We were approaching Mexico City and I had to "go". I went to the back of the bus to the bathroom and discovered that the large window in the bathroom had been broken at some point, and the frosted glass had thoughtfully been replaced by a sheet of clear glass. I thought "so what", we're whizzing down the highway anyway. As soon as I got my pants down and had my rear up against that window on the toilet, we turned onto a 6-lane highway that was bumper-to-bumper stalled traffic. My rear was practically right in the face of every truck that was creeping by. Again I thought "so what". It's quite common for an American to show his ass in Mexico, lol.

Then, there is the old, being in a rural area, and thinking you are pretty much alone when -- doing that guy thing, writing your name or someone's name in the dust with a nice arching stream of water-- you notice nearby the house you had previously neglected to see.

We did not enter American Airspace, so no escort planes.
