Naksup Pics part 2

More pics from Nakusp ( which isn't going to happen this year - Waaaah). Hopefully we will still get to go see The Rockster though.
Saturday at Nakusp had Skavenjah playing some cool tunes before dark. I really enjoy Ska, and these guys do it well, although I am not so sure that my dancing should be seen in broad daylight.
The headliner for the evening was Kevin Costner - the movie guy. He has a band called Modern West. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Kevin is an extremely competent musician and songwriter. Sorry this is the best picture I could get, as I was bing pushed aside by the stampeding ladies.....
However Kevin's songs did not really strike a chord with me. Many of his songs deal with a war topic, what happens when a son dies on the battlefield etc. Great songs with a strong message, but Canadians are different from Americans. War and military is not as large part of our culture, our country was not founded by a war. Apparently one other person shared my view.
Next day, it was on the dirtbikes and quads for a quick tour of the area. The Stig came along.
One of our stops was a place called Creosote Cabin.
Another sad story. This cabin was built in the 1960s, apparently by the Barths.
They built a small shack which they lived in, while they constructed their main log cabin. It is a beautiful piece of work, very well constructed. Unfortunately, they treated the logs with creosote, a wood preservative. I am sure their intentions were great, to build a cabin that would last a long time, and they were right. The cabin stands today, just as unlivable, as the day after they applied the creosote to it. The off-gas from the creosote make it difficult to go in the cabin for more than a minute or two, even after 50 years. The inside of the cabin is pristine. Normally, when you go into a cabin in the bush, there are all sorts of signs left by rodents and other critters, that share the cabin. Not here, not a single critter poop to be found. Even the critters cannot get inside.
I do not know what happened to the Barths after that, but they did not try to build another cabin on that same piece of property.
After that it was back to the bar - The Floating Bar.

That all for this month
