Training in Scotland

, ,

Winning the Baja requires more than just great riding skill and physical fitness. You must pay attention to the mental and spiritual sides during the training regime also. To that end I made a short stop in East Kilbride the other weekend. I have only now recovered enough to write about it. I was ministered to by the Rev Eddie, under the watchful eye of Dr. Graeme. Mic, Deke, The Bucket and the rest of the staff worked wonders.

It was a brutal session of sleep and food deprivation for 48 hours. Guiness was the only source of nutrients allowed. Dr Graeme kept the electrolytes and chemicals in balance with the skill of a learned practicioner, his youthful appearance belying his vast experience. This trip all of the treatments were applied in The Charlie, which is now smoke free, but alas not Karaoke Free.

On Saturday we headed out to a quarry that had been turned into a climbing centre. We were going to do the aerial assault course (the logs hanging from the roof) but it was closed.

They had not posted this information on their website, or telephone message, as it had only been closed for 5 months now, and they hadn't got round to it yet. Right then, back to the Charlie it was.

More updates on race details coming soon.
