Track Ride

Brent had heard that there was a track in Chilliwack beside Cattermole's dryland sort. We did Google Maps to try to find it, but as luck would have it, the high res stops just short of the dryland sort. On Thursday we drove out to try to stumble around and find it. As we drove around, we realized that dirt biking is much like sledding. If you don't know anyone to tell you where to go, you can spend a lot of time getting lost. Eventually we saw some bike tracks down by the river and went to investigate. Sure enought, a ways down the shoreline was a track carved out of the sand. My first time on a real track. It was brutal and it only had baby jumps. The first few times around I bypassed them, to figure out the track. Never got the big one though. I figured out that the stock XR650R shock settings were a wee bit too soft for a fat guy in the whoops. Bottomed it many times. We only got about an hour in before the sun went down, but I was soaked.

Need to do that many more times, however I headed off to South America, to a true desert. Antofagasta Chile. It is a mining support town on the Pacific ocean. The tropic of Capricorn crosses the about 500 m North of the airport. Interestingly enough, depsite being a city on the ocean, with mountains right behind it, where I would expect a lot of rain as the moist pacific air drops it's moisture as it moves over the mountains, the last time it rained was 1992. No poop. They still talk about it though. Unfortunately I forgot my bike at home.
