Dan has the race bike prepped and ready to go. It looks brand new, so I told him the story of how Brent managed to get skid marks on his new Carbon Fibre Helmet, within 45 minutes of leaving the store. Dan's response was "If you're not wrecking, you're not racing". I am glad he has a sense of humour about these things.

For those of you who are interested, the bike is a Honda XR650R. It was designed by Honda with the sole purpose of winning the Baja. It has won more Baja races than any other bike. It is not a motocross bike, or a dirt bike, it truly is built to ride across the desert at high speed. Stock from the factory they make about 45 hp. The tune up I did to mine brings it up to about 57. Dan has done much more extensive engine work, including porting, polishing, new exhaust, so I suspect it will be making about 65 Hp. It is a single cylinder 4 stroke water cooled engine. Dan has also spent a lot of money on suspension, to make the bike better suited for us gravitationally challenged, more mature riders.

The decal on the front fender is for Brentos Cycle Center in Bakersfield, who are providing sponsorhsip for us, not an homage to our team member. While we are not running Michelin tires, somehow it seemed appropriate.
Check back next week for your last chance sponsorship offer.
Cheers
