Riding with a Clear Head

We got off to a much earlier start this morning, thanks to some treachery by Dan. He closed the curtains last night, and then got up at 5:00 am and was dressed, moving around the hotel room. Finally I asked him what time it was, to which he replied, 8:30. I drug my butt out of bed but was somewhat suspicious on opening the curtains. Dan assured me that it was just a heavy overcast, but no, it was really only 5:50 am. The restaurant didn't open until 7 for brekky. Rode back down highway 1 to San Vincent, and ran Dan's section again. We were moving a lot faster today, and it showed.
Got some major bugs on the highway, and had to clean the windshield.

There was lots of other traffic out on the road today pre-running the course.

We took stickers with us today for the kids on the course. They seem to materialize out of thin air when stickers are offered.

The downside of the faster speeds was that we were tearing up equipment. We ran out of tubes, and patches, eventually leaving me stranded on the side of the road at 4:00 this afternoon while Brent and Dan went for the truck. Steve Koole arrived this afternoon, and he was promptly put to work changing tires and fixing rims. I managed to pick up a 3" nail out in the desert somewhere.

I had the best fish tacos ever, here in Santo Tomas. They were also my first fish tacos, but I'll be back for more.
Dan and Brent have been heaping the ridicule on me over my unique riding style. Apparently no one else sits on their but the whole way. I had a good crash in the sand at Erindira, with Dan watching and laughing.
Baja is a wild and wonderful place. Some of the things you see stagger the imagination. We were riding through some big whoops, when coming the other way is a guy in a full size Chevy Impala. I can only asusme it was a rental car.
On a more somber note, my friend and Kim's Dad, Jerry passed away this morning. He will be sorely missed. A toast was raised in his honour at dinner tonight. I am not sure where this next journey is taking you Jerry, but I am sure the kyaking and fishing will be good. God speed.
