Race Morning - We are off

, , ,

It is Saturday morning. Yesterday's contingency was a zoo. It was eerily quiet driving into the hotel from the movie star house this morning, after the activity last night. At 5:00 am everything was deserted. By 5:30, the city was starting to come alive with the bikes heading to the start line.

Once again the Baja has struck. The best laid plans go sideways. Dan has the flu. He has not been able to keep water down since yesterday. He figures he can ride 4 hours before dehydration sets in. He doesn't think he will be able to ride his second leg from Santo Tomas to the finish. Right now the back up plan is for Brent and I to switch at Vallee de Trinidad, and then I ride to Ojos Negros, and Brent brings in the last 35 miles.

Dan has left the starting line. 6:37 am. Brent has headed out of town to El Rayo. He is out of cell range now, so hopefully he is on the dirt access roads already.

Sal Fish wished us good luck

Now that team Honda have left, we can reveal our secret plan. We have hired the services of Carlos, the Dominoes delivery rider. He will ride ahead of me with a Large Meat Lovers strapped to the back of his moped. The smell should keep me highly motivated.

Kim will try to update the blog as we call back into her at Race HQ.

I am off to meet Brent. We will update with Contingency Day stories and Pics tomorrow
