Very preliminary results are in. These are unofficial, and not sanctioned by SCORE, the promoting body.

We placed 3rd in class, out of around 50. We placed 78th overall, out of 439. We started at 7:12 A.M. and ended at 10:04 A.M. the next day. Our overall speed average was 39.11 MPH, with a total elapsed time of 26 hours, 39 minutes and 11 seconds.

My only concern with reporting this is that we do not know if we had any speed penalties. See, the highway sections of the race are limited to 60 MPH. At the first road crossing at race mile 32 I hit the road hard, and our GPS/Speedometer broke. So, we went the rest of the race estimating our speed on the paved sections. We all worked diligently at going under 60 MPH, but basically we were just guessing. Out of 1047 race miles, about 110 were limited to 60 MPH. So, it’s conceivable that we may have crept over the limit at some point.

We should know more later today regarding any penalties once they have down-loaded the data from the required GPS rally logger on the race bike.

Assuming we do not have any penalties, I would be ecstatic with third place. We had four flats, ran out of fuel twice, broke the GPS, and had to repair the lighting along the way. Total time this cost was probably somewhere around 2 ½ hours. We were 12 minutes from 2nd place and two hours from first.

I spoke with Brent this morning. He just left Mulege, and will drive all day and into the night. They will rest, and with another full day of driving tomorrow, be home by evening.
