Shower Rules

,

We ran into some legal hassles last week over posting so many picture of Wee Eck, as Eddie Hunter calls him. Tom's Scientology Lawyers tried to get an injunction to block this site. Too many people we coming here instead of buying the magazine. We were not supposed to post any cute baby pictures for a while.

I am starting to question the wisdom of some of the advice I have been given. Cam-No Contraception-Preston, father of 4 boys, suggested that if I do a lousy job of installing diapers, Kim will get frustrated, and do them herself. I tried his plan, installed the diaper in a haphazard fashion, and was carrying Poco the pooping machine, back into the kitchen when the plan backfired in the worst possible way. Wee Eck had a power poop. The kind that blow out the top of even a well installed diaper. We both required significant clean up. Thanks Cam.

Apparently there is to be a baby shower tomorrow. Much to my surprise, I discovered that this was a little different from a baby bath, or the showers at the Fraser Arms Hotel. This one involves people bringing presents for Eric, which is cool. Just in case people are confused about what to bring, I figured I should lay down some guidelines.

1)It is NOT acceptable to give any clothing with ears or frilly things. Forcing a small child to wear such items can scar them for life. The next thing you know they will be going to Cher concerts, because they just adore her outfits...... See the pictures of Elton John and George Michaels to the right.

2) It is never too early to start stocking the fridge with beer or the cabinet with a good bottle of Scotch. Any such items will be put on a 90 day rotation, to ensure they are at their optimum freshness, when Eric comes of age.

3) The Keg Steakhouse has an excellent baby Menu. Eric will enjoy the steaks. Lobster Madness month is coming soon.

4) Signed race car or pro sports memorabilia is always a hit at a baby shower.

5) Gifts from Victoria Secrets may cause another sibling to happen. Give the gift of life.

As a diversion from Eric, I took Steve and David out for a ski. Needless to say it ended badly.......

Brought To You By Aurthur (Guiness)

I guess it is time to post pics wearing some of the gift gear and sponsors clothing. Eric is doing well, eating, sleeping and pooping. He is up to 3 kg now. He hasn't started walking yet, but I have been giving him pep talks, and expect him to be upright and mobile by next week.

Following pictures are for our overseas friends; the footballers, egg chasers and people who enjoy watching grass grow.
For the Hoops Fans....

For the Rugby Crew....

What is the difference between a rugby player and a homosexual? - About 2 beers.

For some reason once the Cricket gear came out, we couldn't keep him awake.

Golf and Canucks gear pictures to follow once our lawyers sort out the endorsment contracts with Nike and Orca Bay. Lori and Andrew gave us some cute Harley Davidson gear but we haven't put it on him yet. We don't want to make him afraid of speed at such an early age. Remember, Speed Kills, Buy a Harley, Live Forever.

More pics in the new photo album.

Damping the Heid, and a Name............

,

Sorry for the long delay in posting more pics. Last night we got back stage passes to the Worms Hate Rain gig at the Hook and Ladder, so we went for a little while. Not really long enough to wet the babies head, but enough to get it slightly damp.

Backstage passes have their pros and cons. There are the backstage groupie chicks, which is good, but if the drummer has a bad case of drummers butt, an afliction similar to plumbers butt, the view is not quite as appealing. I am just glad that Scottie wasn't wearing his trademark red thong. Note the drumstick warmer.

Back on the baby front, Poco now has an official name (maybe)..... There was some last minute lobbying for Marshall, Morgan and others, however in the lack of any serious financial commitment from the suggestors, he is named Eric Douglas Jerome Cox.
Eric is because Kim likes the name and although it is anglicized with the c, it is a tip back to some possible viking roots on my mothers side. It has been suggested that her maiden name Simpson, may have Viking Roots. Years ago Mike christened me with a viking name; Tugreeb, which, for the Dan Brown anagram fans can be re-arranged to Beergut. Douglas is my middle name and Jerome is for Grandpa Jer, who he did not get to meet.

If we didn't come up with a name soon, the government gives him a name after 30 days, so we decided not to risk their choice.

Doing some research on proper Viking practice, The Viking Answer Lady describes the naming ceremony:

Naming was done by a practice called ausa vatni, "to pour water over". The ceremony began with the lifting of the child from the floor (where, presumably, it had been laid for the father's inspection and evaluation of its fitness to be raised) and placed in the father's arms (borit ar foður sinum). This rite was not the same as Christian baptism, which is usually termed skirn or "purification" in Old Norse after the advent of Christianity in the North. Once in the father's arms, a sign recalling the Hammer of the god Þórr was made over the child, probably invoking the protection of the god who was considered Mankind's Warder as well as hallowing the child and the ceremony. Another vital element in the name-giving ceremony was the giving of a gift to the child: children received a name-gift from friends and relatives of the family,

In keeping with the last part of this ceremony, Aunt Donna and Grandma Carol have organized a shower. I have registered Poco and myself at the Fleetwood Arms Pub / Cold Beer and Wine Store, in case you are wondering about a suitable gift.

Poco Eric is doing well. Last Thursday at his first Dr.s visit he had surpassed his birth weight. He is an eating-pooping-sleeping machine, so I am no longer questioning his genetic background. His favourite sleeping position is in full phone mode, and he seems to have an aversion to the paparizzi.

More Baby Pics

Grandpa Norm has visited Wee Eric, along with a host of other friends and well wishers.

And lastly I must admit that my shutout has been broken. The PDS is now Eric 84 : Bryan 1

This last picture is for the guy Ali likes in Australia. Good on ya mate.

New Fat Guy Story, Baby Pic and House Adjustments

,

I should start this entry by thanking my neighbours who are providing the internet access. I tore out my office for Emily's bedroom, and we don't have an internet connection. However 3 of my neighbours have unsecured wireless networks, so no worries. If anyone needs to do a bunch of bit torrent stuff, just park outside.

Poco is doing well. He still doesn't have a name. If we take the best corporate offer for naming, he will be called Air Canada Cox. He is so tiny that perhaps we should rename him Minúsculo Burrito. Cam has been calling him <InsertNameHere>. The Public Health Nurse stopped by on Friday and he had dropped to 2480 g, or he was at 92% of his birthweight. A nurse is stopping by this afternoon for another weigh, to make sure he is eating okay. Based on his genetic background, eating won't be a problem.

I have been somewhat occupied with the new baby thing, and remiss about relating one of Dan's riding stories. It is now a couple of weeks old. He was supposed to send me pictures, but I suspect that isn't going to happen. Here is Dan's narrative:

Got the bike stuck in a "dry" lake bed last weekend. Up to the axles in clay/mud. Had to lay it on it's side to dig it out. Course when it was on it's side it flooded. So, when the kids and I finally got it out (1 hour later) and tried to start it, got a backfire, then just a fire. Yanked the side cover off and got it put out, but not before it ruined the cover. Rode 20 miles back with my jersey stuffed in the airbox for a filter, before the sleeve came loose and wrapped around the rear tire. I feel like Homer Simpson.

It is quite an adjustment to go from a bachelor to having a full family in the house. Just this morning I found the shooter glasses being used as egg cups.

Baby Pic of the Day

Trying to get our house sorted out, and prep for upcoming Sled season. The boots are a wee bit big. Hopefully Poco will grow into them in the next few months.

At Home

,

Poco Burrito came home this afternoon. The house is still a mess however. We now have 2 functioning bathrooms again, as long as you are not shy. The main one doesn't have a door yet. PB does a lot of sleeping during the day, and kept Mum up last Night. I seem to be immune to any crying so far. As an added bonus, the PDS (Poopy Diaper Score) currently sits at: Poco Burrito 8, Bryan 0.

Apparently looking at pictures of babies is better than reading my regular blogs. The number of hits on the blog has even surpassed the number on Race day in Baja. Not sure where all the people are coming from, but welcome.

Cheers
Bryan and Kim

PS Kim isn't reading the blog right now. As soon as she starts and realizes I am posting the PDS, things will change.

It's a Boy!

,

We are pleased to announce that at 4:30 AM we have a new life in this world. A yet to be named baby boy. He weighs in at 2693 grams or 5 lb 15 Oz. I can't figure out stones. He is 51 cm long. I don't think I can say tall until he can stand up. That would be 19 3/4 inches, if you still base your measuring system on the distance from the King's nose to the end of his index finger.

Both Kim and PB are doing well.

Time for some sleep now.
