More first day pre-run

, ,

Scott adjusting his suspension on the ride, making it more firm as it was bottoming out the travel. I had to do the same. At first we thought that perhaps our speed was too great and that we were pushing the bikes beyond their capability, then we realized it may have something to do with our, um, body composition.

Later in the ride we encountered our first silt bed. This is the dirt that has the same consistency as baby powder, and is deep. It reached up and grabbed Scott. He promptly swallowed a mouth full of dirt.

This gives perspective of how deep it is.

The dirt get’s everywhere. I mean, everywhere. Later in the day Scott farted and produced a cloud of dust.

Unfortunately, later in the day while progressing a steep, loose and rocky uphill Scott twisted the throttle a tad to far and the front end of the bike pointed skyward. He flipped and landed squarely in his knee that had major reconstruction surgery a few years back. He struggled another ten miles on the course. It’s pretty swollen and deeply bruised. It’s 50% / 50% if he will male the pre-run tomorrow.

When we got back to the hotel, Korny, Chris and the rest of the crew were there. They stopped in to say hello, grab a bite to eat and then continue their trek south. They will drive another couple of hours tonight and meet Brent and Timmy Mo for lodging. Tomorrow brings another full day of travel. Then on Monday he begins his pre-run. He will pre-run his 300 mile section at least twice. He will race it at night, and this is really a significant amount of miles for one guy to race at night. He is an iron man.

More to come tomorrow.

Not a beer or a super duper Margarita in site. You fools must think you have a chance against me and the guy with the water bottle in his pants that sits behind me.
