Our new campaign!
By Anna Brandtannageneva. Wednesday, May 4, 2011 7:12:00 AM

On Monday, we officially launched the Campus build of
our browser! Since then it has been downloaded 20 times, in Norway, Nigeria, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Germany, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Romania, Mexico, Ghana, Bangladesh and Unknown (I wonder where that is
).
We're off to a good start, but it's only just the beginning. What better way to celebrate the launch of our new build than with a new campaign?
I hereby present: the 1000 Installations Campaign!
Let's get the new build installed on as many computers as possible!
- In university computer labs
- In Internet cafés
- In your friends' and families' homes
- On any computer you can get your hands on (never without permission of the owner, of course
)
Do you think that we can reach 1000 downloads until the end of May?
The Campus build
Make sure to install the special Campus build so that we can track the number of downloads!
University labs
How to get Opera installed in your lab
Just follow this great step-by-step guide!
If you are not able to install Opera
If you cannot get permission to install Opera in your university lab, your work can still be of great value to us. One of the goals of this campaign is to improve the system administrator handbook. The purpose of the handbook is to help system administrators install and configure Opera. The more we know about what keeps us from being installed in universities, the better we can adjust the handbook to respond to exactly those challenges.
So if your lab administrator tells you that Opera cannot be installed, just ask him the questions below and find out exactly why not. Send the answers to education@opera.com.
-
Is it a policy problem? If so, why is Opera not allowed? Is it possible to change the policy?
- Is it a technical problem? What is the technical problem? Can we help in any way to solve the problem?
Internet cafés
Installations of Opera in Internet cafes are a great way to to make an impact, and to spread that impact beyond the campus and into your community! You can approach them about installing Opera no matter where you are, whether you are close to school, close to home, or even traveling!
Just give them a brief demonstration of the features and help them with the installation process. Follow the how to-guide for installling Opera in campus computer labs, as cafés have many of the same needs and interests as the networked environment of a computer lab. The lab manager page and system administration guide will also be helpful resources for you and the café managers you meet.
After the installation you can ask to hang our Internet café poster inside to let users know about Opera's availability.
Support materials
Yeah, there's posters! You can order a support package to support you in your efforts.
The support package contains
- 10 "Opera installed" posters for computer labs (A4) to make people aware of the fact that Opera is now available
- 10 "Opera installed" posters for Internet cafés
- 10 Desktop posters (A4) to promote the features of the browser
-
1 cell phone pouch in case a lab administrator or café owner needs a bit more convincing
Click here to find out how to order! (That post is a members-only post and you are only going to be able to see it if you are a member of the intranet and logged on. To find out how to sign up to the intranet, please refer to your Welcome mail or drop me an email at education@opera.com.)

If you install it from USB sticks we are not going to be able to track downloads, but rather firsttime users. Which is also great
