Opera Mini 4.2 launched!

, , ,

After a couple of weeks of testing out the beta, this morning we are excited to announce the release of the final version of Opera Mini 4.2! Opera is also releasing today a beta version for the latest version of the Android mobile platform. Check out the post about the beta release for more information about the new features. Opera Mini 4.2 is ready and waiting for download at http://www.opera.com/mini/.

New vid!
Check out our funky new video for Opera Mini. If you have a YouTube account, log in so you can rate it and post comments to it. We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Opera in cartoon!
We have released five Opera Mini comics to demonstrate some "real life" scenarios where Opera Mini comes in handy (or to the rescue!). They are available in English, French, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Vietnamese. You can also send them to your friends as e-cards! Simply follow the link for your language, choose a cartoon you like, and click "Send as e-card". We suggest you try the new Opera Mini frame for these e-cards :D.

Spread the word
There are lots of things you can do to spread the word about this or any other release on your campus. Espen (My Opera guru) and I have come up with a huge list of activities that you can choose from, and there’s something for everyone regardless of how many Crew members you have on your campus, or if you’re in a busy period at school. It ranges from changing your Twitter status, posting the video on your Facebook, writing a review, installing on your friends’ phones, running Demo Days and so on.

The list of activities is similar to the updated guide on Choose Opera, but tailored more to the Campus Crew. Tomorrow I will be posting some more detailed information about holding presentations and Demo Days. Stay tuned!

Hehe, yes and there's quite a lot of new languages available with Mini 4.2. Hopefully we can reach everyone!

What do you guys think of our new video and comics?

Localization of comics is a bit poor. E.g. here: http://my.opera.com/chooseopera/albums/showpic.dml?album=644491&picture=8795794
That's not just about overflowing text in speach-bubbles, it's facebook opened instead of vkontakte (russian clone, the most popular website on the russian net). Maybe it's possible to let the community translate 'em to local languages? The only thing needed is a pic with empty speech-bubbles, opera-approved font and a short how-to for making screenshots of operamini on a pc (few phones allow that).

Hi Vladimir, hmm yes I hadn't noticed that about the Russian comic - it was translated by a Russian-speaking Kyrgyzstani colleague, and the graphics guy who put it together is actually Ukrainian, so I'm not sure why that come out badly. I'll pass on the feedback and he will fix it.
