ACM International Collegiate Programing Contest 2008 in Altai State Technical University

, , ,

Hello everyone from Altai State Technical University Opera Campus Crew! In the end of November (24th-27th) the semi-final of the International Collegiate Programming Contest for the Association of Computer Machinery (ACM) 2008-2009 took place in Altai State Technical University (Russian Federation, Altai region). Only four cities from ex-USSR have been honoured to hosts these competitions. They are St.Petersburg (Russia), Barnaul (Russia), Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and Batumi (Georgia). About 50 student teams from all over the Siberia and Far east arrived to Barnaul to participate in this contest, and we used it as an opportunity to promote Opera!

ASTU Opera Campus Crew prepared for this event a lot of suprises. First of all, we printed a few beautiful Opera posters (the community messaging posters) and put them on walls in our computer labs. Students liked them. They made some pictures with posters. The posters are still decorating our labs.

Secondly, we installed Opera 9.62 everywhere we could. This browser was installed on all students' desktops, on print-servers (running Windows XP), on global monitor in the conference-room, on all local monitor-desktops.

Thirdly, Opera Software gave us large number of t-shirts and shirts. Some of them we gave to technical support team, we presented our organizational committee with some of them and we used them to form four prizes for winner-teams. The Opera spirit was everywhere

Opera became an official sponsor and Opera logo appeared on local contest materials web-site.

We want to say "Thank you very much" to Opera and special thanks to Zara Lauder. Without her support we'd never have had so much fun in holding this event. This time Opera Software was a sponsor of our local competition. Next year we want Opera to become a global Northeastern European Regional Contest sponsor.

Congratulations on the event, guys! Cool to hear that there were over 200 students and coaches attending . Everyone at the office was really impressed.

I didn't realise you'd also used the opportunity for installations! Was that on the computers of the students who attended or in the labs?

Michael Chernykh 29. December 2008, 16:55

We've installed Opera in all labs' computers. These computers were used by contest participators during the contest. Participators liked Opera and now our students are using it on about 70 computers.

Well done! Hooray for getting Opera onto more computers :D.
