Tupi NHS, Philippines | Now Opera-powered!

, ,

Tupi National High School in Tupi, South Cotabato, the Philippines, is now powered by the world's most powerful browser! We have installed the Opera browser on 43 computers in two computer laboratories. And to testify further about being Opera-powered, each computer unit bears a 'There's an Opera in here' sticker. bigsmile

Working on the Computer Lab Challenge are two Tupi NHS alumni and Campus Crew members, myself Alexis (Mindanao State University-General Santos City) and Xyrilloid (South East Asian Institute of Technology). The labs' major browser upgrade is just in time for the opening of classes and the upcoming class presentations next week! To welcome the students is a really cool banner right at the school's main gate.

June 5, 2009 marks the farewell for Internet Explorer which has been used for almost a decade in the labs. faint In fact, Opera is now the labs' official default browser. yes

The task was finished in under two hours, thanks to Opera Link which made the synchronizing of the required bookmarks and speed dial shortcuts a breeze!bigsmile

We had a chance to talk to the school's lab administrator/computer subject teacher, and he is set to review the Web Standards Curriculum for possible inclusions in the curriculum of senior students. He was actually exploring the Opera Education site when we left him at the lab bigsmile

This task was made possible through connections with good teachers in high school. They were happy to see us again, and were even happier to know that we're doing a lab installation of the world's most powerful browser. Just something that we could give back to our good ol' Alma Mater. Next week, we will be back at Tupi NHS to conduct class presentations. cool

Absolutely fantastic work! Computer lab installations, banners, presentations coming up, distributing fliers AND you're convincing teachers to incorporate the Web Standards Curriculum in their classes! Awesome, awesome effort guys. You're doing us proud. up

If/when the teacher does decide to include the WSC in classes, it would also be great for you to blog about that. Not many Crew members have worked on that activity yet, so it would be great to hear how you went about it so we can all get some tips. smile
