Branch-level selection

, , ,

A few weeks ago, following feedback from our Campus Crew members, we introduced a limit of 20 members per branch/campus per semester. Having a limit on the number of members makes it even more important to make sure campuses recruit and select high-quality members who are enthusiastic about Opera and Opera Campus Crew activities.

As such, we would like branches to take a larger role in the selection of new members, especially if they already have or are aiming to recruit a high number of members. Members on campus are in a better position to get to know and assess potential members than Opera Software is able to. Branch-level selection can include potential members submitting an application or being interviewed at the campus level and being allocated into teams, before they apply via Opera.com. (Branch-level selection is only applicable for branches with 5 or more members. If you are from a smaller branch that is planning a large recruitment campaign and wish to do branch-level selection, please contact us before you begin.)

We have created some resources to help you do recruitment and selection in your campuses:
Selection guide: An overall guide to the process of selection and what to do at each stage
Application: A shortened offline version of our existing application form, which potential members can submit to the branch.
Sample interview questions: Selection criteria and different questions you can ask to get a better introduction to the motivations and interests of your potential member.

Branch-level selection is optional, and Opera Software can continue to selection new members for you. You should let us know if you are planning to do branch-level selection, so that if we receive any applications via Opera.com we will know not to accept any potential members from your campus straightaway, and instead put them in contact with the branch so they can move ahead in the selection process that way. smile

Please let us know if you have any comments or questions about these resources. These are new tools so we are definitely open to feedback and improving them based on your experiences!

If you already have 20 members at your campus you do not need to recruit more, but I'm not sure how many of your members are inactive and if any are graduating at the end of the current semester. Perhaps then you want to recruit and select new members, or alternatively we can continue to do this for you.

Members can leave the Opera Campus Crew if they graduate or simply if they no longer want to be a member (this has happened for example when members go into their final year of studies and feel they do not have much time now for activities with the higher study workload).
