Activities for School Breaks

Many of you still have a part of their well-deserved end-of-semester vacation ahead of you. It's a time to take a break from classes, refresh, and get ready for the new semester. Worried about how you can be active on the Campus Crew during the break? Never fear, here’s a guide to what you can get involved with on the Campus Crew, even if no one else is on campus…• Learn about Web standards: Want to know more about web standards before you talk to professors and webmasters, or just want to brush up your web design skills? Read the tutorials in the Web Standards Curriculum (WSC) to learn more about HTML, CSS, accessibility and more. Happy reading!
• Take Opera for a test drive: Do you use only one of Opera's browsers? Take the opportunity to install and explore Opera for computers, Mini and Mobile, so you’re familiar with their features and can guide others in how to use them.
• Meet up: If you have other members at your university, take the opportunity to meet up with them - whether to discuss activity, or just socialise and get to know each other!
• Plan: Timeline your activities for the coming semester. You should consider when in the semester there are exams (when you will be too busy to organise something and students will be too busy to attend it anyway), when there are other university events you don't want to clash with and so on. Ask yourself: What is the best week to hold a Demo Day stand, presentation or interviews with students? When will you recruit new members? What is the best time to approach computer lab administrators about installation, professors about web standards, and webmasters about standards compliance? What stories can you pitch to campus media and when? Are there any other cool things happening on campus that you can tie in with? (You can email us any plans for feedback!)
• Explore the online group: If you haven’t explored the Opera Campus Crew online group, do it in the break! Check out the blog, resources and forums... and don’t forget to contribute to the forums while you're there!
• Check out publicity options: Search the Web for free event guides or places to promote your events, for your campus or even your city!
• Make it compliant: You may not be able to talk to your webmaster until class starts back, but you can check if pages in your campus website or intranet look different in Opera than when you view them on other browsers (or just plain don’t work at all). Make note of particular web pages and the exact problems you encounter, so you can give better information to your webmaster when you do contact them.
• Research: Search your campus website to find the contact details for the most relevant professors you need to talk to about the Web Standards Curriculum, the lab managers to speak to about installation, webmasters to talk to about standards, etc. That way you will be ready to email them as soon as the new term begins. It’ll save you time later on!
• Translation: Want to make Campus Crew materials more accessible to students in your country? Then localise them by translating them! All you need to do is send us the text, showing clearly which translated text corresponds to which English text, and we can put it all together for you.
• Activity Report: Haven't made a post to the Campus Crew blog yet to share the learnings, results and photos from one of your activities during semester? Share it now! Remember that your activity will be counted as complete when you make your blog post about it.
Got other ideas for cool vacation activities? Share them in the comments below!
Keep enjoying your school break!

Also aim to Internet Cafe administrators to install Opera.
And finally enjoy your favorite web sites with the best browser in the history
