As a part of student activities in Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Statistik/STIS (Indonesian Government Statistics School), I with the support of Komputasidotnet (STIS Computing Students Club) conducted the first Opera Campus Crew Seminar at 8 July 2011. They were about 40 students attending the seminar. We invited Risanto Darmawan (a long Opera Campus Crew member) to speak in the seminar. It was a great experience, especially for the students as they had such a good and experienced Opera user speaker as Risanto.
Risanto started his speech with the use of Google as one of the analysis tool for students. He gave so many good examples so that many questions from students as they were very keen to apply them into their projects.
The second part of the speech was about Opera itself. As an experienced Opera user, Risanto introduced the Opera Web browser from the basics to the advanced use. It was very good for the students as many of them have not used Opera but on the other hand some STIS students has used it for a couple of years. Risanto talked about from the history of the Opera, how to use Opera efficiently to the tricks how to use Opera Mini cleverly. To make the speech more interactive, Risanto awarded the students with Opera merchandises for the participants who answered the questions correctly along the seminar.
The third part of the speech was about OCC. Risanto encouraged the students to apply as OCC will give so many benefits to students. It includes on how to use Opera web browser and Opera Mini efficiently, HTML standard programming as well as free goodies from Opera. The students were very keen to join with the OCC as they found that Opera is still the fastest web browser and they are willing to spread it to the entire campus and many internet cafes around the campus. I, as a lecturer at STIS will conduct more Opera seminars in the future so that the students will get more benefit from OCC.
The seminar was concluded with picture taking for all seminar participants.
See you on the next OCC seminar at STIS!
