, ,

Opera today launched the second beta versions of Opera Mini 5 and Opera Mobile 10. In this second beta release, Opera Mini and Opera Mobile users can now enjoy popular desktop features, such as Opera Link and the Download Manager, from their mobile phones.

With Opera Link, users can synchronize personal browser settings with their Opera desktop browser, as well as all their connected devices, ensuring that their bookmarks, Speed Dial and search engines are always accessible. The Download Manager gives users a better way to control and speed up downloads to mobile phones.

Features further polished in the second beta release are the unified look and feel across Opera's browser products, the visual bookmarks known as Speed Dial, and tabbed browsing, one of the most popular innovations in browsing history.

Fun facts on the growth of Opera Mini: Opera reports that almost 40 million people used Opera Mini in October, saving users 9.4 billion USD per year just by choosing Opera Mini.

Opera Mobile 10 Beta for Windows Mobile

,

Following on from the launch of Opera Mobile 10 beta for Nokia and other Symbian S60 smartphones two weeks ago, Opera Software is now unveiling Opera Mobile 10 beta for Windows Mobile.

The Opera Mobile 10 beta for Windows Mobile looks and feels similar to the Opera 10 desktop browser and Opera Mini 5 beta. Opera is creating more cohesion between its products by introducing a unified look across many of its platforms. Opera maintains its powerful arsenal of features in this
beta, including Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, a password manager and its super, server-side compressor, Opera Turbo.

1. Intuitive new interface – Opera has thrown out the clutter and is keeping it simple in terms of aesthetics. Less is more when it comes to mobile browsing.
2. Speed Dial – Speed Dial serves as your personal table of contents for the Web. Your favorite sites welcome you upon launching Opera, and in one click, you are there.
3. Tabbed browsing – Open new links in multiple tabs to bounce between sites easily.
4. Password manager – Save those annoying passwords with Opera’s password manager, or if you are feeling vulnerable, simply and swiftly delete all.
5. Touchscreen or keypad navigation – Whether your Windows Mobile smartphone is touchscreen or keypad-based, Opera Mobile 10 beta is customized for your navigation style.
6. Save images – Select and save your friends’ Facebook pictures to your phone for offline viewing later.
7. Opera Turbo – Offload your page rendering to one of Opera’s servers, and reduce your data costs.
8. Advanced compatibility - Since Opera Mobile 10 beta is based on Opera’s browser for desktop computers, it maintains advanced Web-site compatibility and ensures that nearly any site is accessible from a mobile phone.
9. Smooth surfing – Pan, zoom and smoothly scroll your way through the Web.
10. It is free! – Opera Mobile 10 beta for Windows Mobile is available as a free download at http://www.opera.com/mobile/ or m.opera.com/mobile/ (for phone download).

Mobile Browsing World Series!

, ,

Following the recent releases of Opera Mobile 10 beta and Opera Mini 5 beta, we are launching the Mobile Browsing World Series! This follows on from the Opera 10 World Series, which focused on the landmark release of our latest desktop browser.

The World Series will be a series of Opera events focusing on Opera's mobile browsers, held by Crew members across the globe at times that are most suitable for them and their campus. The Mobile Browsing World Series is a great opportunity if you are looking for a new kind of activity, or if mobile browsing is more popular with students in your country/area than desktop browsing. Even though these products are in beta, you can still spread the word about them.

Activities
There are a range of activities you can do as part of the Mobile Browsing World Series
Arrange a presentation: Arrange a presentation about our mobile browsers. You may even like have as your topic 'Mobile Internet for Beginners', and perhaps focus on first-year students (here is a slideset and example agenda for that kind of presentation).
Hold a Demo Day: Hold a Demo Day focusing on demonstrating Opera Mini and/or Opera Mobile.
Conduct interviews: Hold interviews or do surveys with students about their experience with mobile browsing, and use it an opportunity to tell them more about Opera and answer any questions or concerns about mobile browsing. Use our interview guide as a starting point, and you can customise it with questions based on information you would like to find out.
Distribute Opera Mini comics: Help new users understand how they can use Opera Mini by showing situations where Mini comes in handy, through our Opera Mini comic strips. You could leave one on each chair in a cafeteria or computer lab, or walk around handing them out so you can add a personal touch and answer any extra questions. Check out these posts about members in Indonesia and the Philippines handing out the Opera Mini comics.
Hang up Opera Mini posters: We have updated the Opera Mini posters (in English, Indonesian and Russian) to include the new features introduced in Opera Mini 5 beta. We will shortly add a poster targeting BlackBerry users.
