Me and Opera with Dean

, , ,

Hi all

A week back, I was in my institutes's dean's office for a meeting with him. The meeting went very well, but during our conversation with him, I was continuously noticing him having some problem with his PC. After the meeting I asked him whether I could help him out and amazingly he was very kind to give me the opportunity to help him.
First let me tell about the problems: He was harassed by the speed of loading of various webpages on his IE( the primary problem he was facing at that moment) which he thought was due to university's internet connection.

A few of my friends suggested him FF and me opera. But they failed as I always carry Opera's setup in my pen drive :D ( a step ahead)
It gave me a chance to introduce him to Opera and let me tell you he was very impressed by its speed.
The opera Turbo feature was just an icing on the cake. I explained him the process and then gave him the live demo of the comparison of speed of both IE and Opera.
He liked the speed dial feature which allowed him to manage his favorite pages efficiently ( he not at all liked just bookmarking and forget kind of things in IE)

Then I saw his IE, and saw that he was always logged on and there I found the opportunity to introduce him to the Opera mail built in the browser. Even if h was thinking of choosing between Opera and other browsers, this feature just gave Opera another supremicy over IE there, and instantly he asked me whether I could remove IE from his computer ( as his PC is a bit old having 40GB hdd only).
Twitter widget was just a great add on for him.

With some other windows tweaks, now he is more than satisfied with it.

In fact, as far as I remember I haven't spoken this much in front of him any day before. Really was a great feeling.

My first Campus Crew Session

, ,

Hi all
At last I got my first opera campus crew session done.
The session was organized on 14th November 2009.
It saw a very good participation of 102 students. It was good to see such a huge participation considering the fact that examination season have started in the university. The session was very interactive and the attendees were given a basic introduction about the technologies provided by Opera. The students were amazed after knowing that how multidimensional opera is.
The core of the discussion was the Opera Browsers which included a detailed introduction to the latest Opera 10 browser.
In addition to that, the attendees were given a brief introduction to the web development and other dimensions of opera such as unite etc.

As my examination season have started and will continue till December end. Hopefully I'll be able to get over them quite well. Wish me luck !!!

Signature Campagain for One Web Standard

, ,

As we all know, web pages are rendered differently by different browsers. It is a big headache for web page designers making web page compatible with all browsers. Taking this in mind, a signature campaign was carried out here at IOE, Pulchowk Campus. Almost 27 people participated in this campaign and showed their vote for one web standard. The title "Signature Campaign for One Web Standard" might be somewhat awkward but the theme is what i mentioned here at the top. Thanks to all

Opera Week at Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad

, , , ...

Hi folks,

Firstly, I’d like to say sorry for everyone because I’m late to post the report about the bunch of events ( seminars, presentation, quizzes, Demos, etc) which I organize in my university Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad during our technical fest “Effervescence MM’09’ held from 1st to 5th oct,2009.
Effervescence MM’09 is considered to be the biggest tech-management fest in the country where students from all over India rush to Allahabad to participate. For online events, we get participation from all over the world which includes some of the best coders of the world. The 42 events during the fest anticipated a huge participation of 8,000 students at our campus and a whopping no. of 17,400 students at all which includes online as well as on campus participation.

I thank Varun jain and Yogesh Khatri (other OCC members at my university) for their support in organizing these events.

Opera Stall At VIT During GraVITas

, , , ...

Loads Of FUN..!!!

GraVITas was a an international Level techno-management event conducted by all schools at VIT University. It had students from around the world. It saw a wooping 18000 students including 4000 from other universities and colleges around the world.

Opera Sponsored a Web designing event during the GraVITas, around 200 students participated in the event.
It was a great success.

The opera stall at VIT during the GraVITas was a great success. My self and my crew member Pravin managed the stall together.

We were startled by response we got from the Students from other colleges, it was a great week end for both of us.

We estimate that more than 400 students visited the stall. This include faculties of VIT and other professionals from companies.

We were asked about the features of opera and Opera mini. I handled Opera Mini and Pravin handled about the browser version.

I used my laptop and my Phone to show the demo of Both Web browser and the Mobile version. People were very much interested in it and also got it installed on spot on their mobiles. Many students shared their time for completing the Interview form and the feedback of Opera.

Many questions were on the comparison of Opera with other browsers. We explained about all the features and the advantages of using opera such as the Opera Turbo, E-mail and Chat client, VOICE, widgets, speed dial etc...

Based on the survey we were astonished that, many students use Opera and Opera mini. But no one Knew about the Voice feature in Opera. Once we said that it has voice accessibility, people were really interested in it.

So, I took the pleasure in explaining about voice using the website project that I had done which works only with opera. It was Awesome to see their mouths open after the demo.

It was a great start for me as a Campus crew member. It helped me gain a good experience on interacting with Other students.

Personally Opera helped me to develop a website that is created completely for the Visually challenged but can also be used for others.

It can be viewed using voice enabled opera at www.voiceweb.co.nr.

The cyber cafe is near to our Campus. It is one of the busiest cyber cafe in the locality. I headed towards the cafe as soon as i got the merchandise. There were almost 12 computers on the cyber cafe.

I have written a review of Opera 10 in one of our unofficial campus medias, IOELIVE. I have not written any shortcomings of Opera 10 but will surely come up with some if i get to know. I have tried my best to describe the Opera 10's features. You can view the article here.
I have also uploaded the copy of same article on my blog.
Any comments are warmly appreciated.
Cheers
