, , , ...

The Opera Campus Crew in the Philippines held an Opera 10 World Series Event on another campus last, 12 December 2009 at the Holy Child College of Information Technology in Surallah, Philippines. The event was split into two sessions of around 100 participants in each session, one in the morning and another one in the afternoon.

Based on past experiences with presentation in other schools, we could say that the students and teachers in-charge of the activity really put their hearts into the preparation. We (Me, Alexis and George Lemuel) were welcomed by the students were given garlands which is quite a surprise since it was the first time we experienced that from all of the schools in which we conducted a seminar and demo day.

It takes 1 hour and 15 minute for us to get to Pakuan University. Although we are using motorcycle to get there. But that's Ok. Introducing Opera Unite Geek-ups!

, , , ...

Following on from yesterday’s launch of the long-awaited Opera 10.10 with Unite, we are launching a new activity initiative for the Opera Campus Crew: Opera Unite Geek-ups!

What is an Opera Unite Geek-up? It’s an interactive and informal gathering where people can come to learn about Opera Unite, and most importantly to explore, play and experiment with its applications and technologies. It'll bring out your inner geek!

Follow our guide to giving presentations, though to increase the interactivity of the Geek-up you should try to hold it in a computer lab or another room where the audience can have internet access. If it is impossible to find such a location on your campus, you can hold it in a regular classroom so long as the presenters have internet access and a projector. Make sure you are familiar with Opera Unite and have explored the different applications before you plan your Opera Unite Geek-up.

Resources
Example agenda: We suggest starting with an overview of Opera and Opera Unite, and have provided a list of tasks you can do on Opera Unite with your audience. We also suggest closing the event with a brainstorm of new Opera Unite applications. You can then send these ideas to me, and the best ideas will be published on My Opera and the Opera Unite blog.
Slideset: For the Geek-ups we have created a slideset about Opera Unite, using Opera’s built-in Web presentation tool, Opera Show. To run the presentation, open the folder and ‘extract all files’ to another folder. Then open the file called "presentation.html". You will see here a linear version of the presentation with speakers notes; click View > Full Screen in your Opera browser (or F11 on your keyboard) to view it in presentation mode.
• Handout: Our Developer Relations team at Opera Software is also working on a handout about how to develop an Opera Unite application... coming soon!
• As usual we can provide you with swag, promotional posters, certificates and feedback forms. Just fill in the request form and send it to us at least three weeks before your event.

Opera is keen to make some campaigns around Opera Unite Geek-ups, so make sure to take photos and even during your event and include them with your blog post. Great opportunities to take photos are during question time, group discussions, interactive tasks, and you can even get the whole group to say hello from your university and country at the end. :D

We hope you are keen to show off Opera Unite through the Geek-ups, and we hope to see some happening soon. :D

BROWSER WAR @ UIET, CSJM University, Kanpur, India on 27th Oct,2009

, ,

We conducted a seminar called BROWSER WAR on 27th of Oct.
It went really good. Had not expected so much crowd.
We started off with showing some video related to web browsers and then with the presentation prepared by Manik and me.
Along with both of us, my classmates Aditya, Mona, Bharat and Ashraf made a remarkable effort in making the seminar worth attending in the college. THANKS to all of them! And at the end we had a quiz which had questions related to the latest browser.
We had nearly 80 students attending the seminar and as we were not expecting so much crowd, we were short of chairs to sit on.:D Even then the people were coming and attending the seminar while standing. I wish we had conducted the seminar in our lecture theater the foot fall would had surely crossed 100.
The crowd came up with several different types of queries and questions related to Internet surfing and slowly the seminar turned into an ' interactive session'.:coffee: It was a great experience. And at the back of the quiz, we asked people to write did they liked the event or not and which browser they used and will switch to which browser from now onwards. The response was verrry positive and there were large number of students switching from IE to opera :hat:

The winner of quiz were
1st: Vaibhav Gupta and Madhur Srivastava
2nd: Praful Katiyar and Swatee Katiyar

Firstly, I’d like to say sorry for everyone because I’m late to post the report about the bunch of events ( seminars, presentation, quizzes, Demos, etc) which I organize in my university Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad during our technical fest “Effervescence MM’09’ held from 1st to 5th oct,2009.
Effervescence MM’09 is considered to be the biggest tech-management fest in the country where students from all over India rush to Allahabad to participate. For online events, we get participation from all over the world which includes some of the best coders of the world. The 42 events during the fest anticipated a huge participation of 8,000 students at our campus and a whopping no. of 17,400 students at all which includes online as well as on campus participation.

I thank Varun jain and Yogesh Khatri (other OCC members at my university) for their support in organizing these events.
