Since our college was closed because of the upcoming "First Internal examinations", I went to an Internet cafe, near to my house for Opera software ASA. The mission was to introduce and install opera software on their PC's. Image0524.jpg
I met administrator of that cafe, named Mr. Manoj, And started to explain about the Opera browser. He was much bothered about the new features and memory eating of the new browser.
He was very much exited and like the new interface and features of Opera after installation.
Dear OCC fellows this time I'm going relate one of my best experience as Campus Crew member and in my life.
On from 18 to 24 July one of the biggest events about technology in the world took place in México, it is Campus Party and that is a brief introduction about it:
Campus Party is recognized as the largest formative technology event, creativity, digital culture and entertainment network in the world. This annual event started in Spain in 1997 and since 2009 takes place in Mexico, meets for one week thousands of participants with their computers from all over Mexico and other nations to share concerns, exchange experiences, to attend conferences, workshops, competitions and exhibitions related to computers, internet, communications and new technologies.
And for the third edition of this event Opera Software participated as a sponsor, supporting the distribution of promotional items, a really big stand and the conference of our charismatic Chief Standards Officer Charles McCathieNevile
During the event there were many conferences, workshops, contests, games and activities related to the adoption of technology.
Attended by professionals from all areas of technology, not only in Mexico if not worldwide. For example we were fortunate with the presence of the father of the Web Tim Berners Lee (friend indeed Chaals ).
My participation in this event I owe to Opera, because I was invited to join his team during the time that remained for the Opera stand.
So I supported in everything possible to the Opera team, for example explaining how to use Opera to the people who came to ask, I could show people how to use it on different platforms such as smartphones, tablets and computers.I also helped to Zoe at conducting competitions/challenges for the attendees had the chance to win cool Opera stuff and of course I went with the mission to make known Opera Education and Opera Campus Crew .
I attended all kinds of people, from children, youth, adults, seniors to people with disabilities. This really motivated me to continue learning more about Opera and get closer to users
During the five days I supported the staff was fortunate that I was invited to dinner with them, so you'll enjoy the days together, it was quite an experience.I had never eaten so much in my life!
This time I'll tell about an event where I gave a conference in a diferent state where I live.
The hstory begins when I was accepted to particapated in and goverment and private initiative program as intern in a company located in a different state from my home, this occasion I went to Puebla that is far from Aguascalientes (we I'm living). I was intern for two months
The new Julian: Me at plently evangelism action (Note I cut my long hair and bear ).
So I looked for ways to stay active despite being away from home, on vacation and into a company project and I got be invited to participated in a special event called "Destilando Web (Distilling Web)", and is about sharing knowlege, best practices and tecnology all about Web, so that was a great oportunity to spread the word about Opera Campus Crew.
This event was organized by "TequillaValley" which is a communitary proyect for spread the technology in Mexico, and I'm member of it too.
In general the attendees were very interested in the Opera Education Program and I think them became aware of the importance of training using open Web standards. That is all for now thanks for reading me, here are some photos of overall event.
While I was still a freshmen in college I always fancied how would it be to
be a student representative of Opera, as I had seen couple of senior students
holding up seminars and installing Opera browser in Labs.
Finally thanks to Ms. Anna Brandt of Opera Education I finally got a golden
opportunity to be a Campus Crew Member and spread the word about Opera Browser
and Web Standards. Well, to being with my first reaction to the email that
mentioned that I had been selected was overwhelming. I danced in joy and
immediately replied asking for further steps. Next as guided I joined up the
Campus Crew Intranet and started influencing my friends circle to try the Opera
browser which in every possible way was faster and better than their then
browser. After that within weeks of this I got my Campus Crew T Shirt. Then I
started on my first job in promoting the Dare to Code Contest. I was really a
nice expreience in being the sole active Representative of Opera in an
institution of 7,000 students. I got several response over the contest. Though
no entry from my college was accepted for not being up-to the mark, it was a
great experience.
However, with that our semester in college got almost over and the next 2
months were full of exam.
Thus, on hand I have to satisfaction of having served Opera, on the other I
have a feeling that with a bit more time I could have done better.
Overall it was a really nice experience, and I hope to serve Opera next
semester too.
Hey Guys, I have recently contributed to the
1000
Installation Campaign, I went around to install Opera Browser on
computers in an Internet Cafe. The name of the Internet cafe is Ewura's
Internet Cafe. This cafe actually is being managed by a Kid (about 11 years of
age). Apparently, the Cafe is his Mum's and since he is the only child, he
has to managed it. .
As per my introduction, I asked Owura (as that's what he is called) if he has
heard of the Opera Browser. He said yes. But none of the
computers were running Opera. So I went ahead and asked him why he
hasn't installed it on the computers. He answered that none of the customers
has asked for it . This occurred to me that he hasn't get the chance
to get to know the importance of Opera Browser to his Internet Cafe. And y'all
know what I did, I started rattling about the importance of Opera Browser
to his Internet Cafe. Features covered were:
[/html:p]
[html:p]
Opera Turbo
Speed Dial
Closed Tabs (in the Recycle Bin)
Opera Turbo
I told him the benefit of Opera Turbo. How it compresses webpages to load
faster when on a slow network. The slow network happens at the peak time of the
day. Around 19:00 to 20:30. Demonstrated to him how it is switched on and the
differences of the pages when the Opera Turbo is switched on and when it is
Switched off.
Speed Dial
He was most fascinated by the Speed Dial feature. Especially
when I told him you can edit it with your favorite website. I asked him which
of the websites the customers enjoy visiting most. I demonstrated to him how to
edit it. Website included in his speed dial were
Badoo, My Joy
Online, Ghana Web,
Ghana's Official Website. Just to mention a
few. We were able to integrate 16 of websites in one of the computers.
Closed Tab The Recycle Bin
With extras for his customers experience, I told him how Opera doesn't do
away with his closed tabs when they are closed. But rather keeps it in the
Recycle Bin located at the top right corner of the Browser. where by if
he wants to go to it again, all he has to do is click the recycle bin
and....voala:D .There it is....
With the recycle bin feature. This kid gave me the idea that even when
the Internet connection is slow, you can pre-opened the webpages after that you
close it. when a customer pops in, you just open it through the recycle thereby
deceiving the customer. I advised him about this method telling him to go ahead
and switch on the Opera Turbo and everything is gonna be alright.
With the installation, I happened to come across two fellow OCC member.
. One is from
KNUST.
Ebenezer Danso He stays in the
same neighborhood with me so when i was going, I sent him with me. I told him
about the OCC and he got interested and registered.
The other, Jerry, is a
Student of Abetifi College of Education. We live in the same region.
Enjoy the pictures though they are in poor quality since we happened to do
this activity in the night..
