"The True Nature Of The Force"

Why I Love Nautilus

, , , ,

Nautilus, from the GNome project, is its default file browser. A lot can be said about it. You will find uncountable tutorials, comments and descriptions from it. But what I've never seen, and brought my atention now, is a very friendly feature that you can find as "Build this project...".

After selecting that option yoo'll see a minimal dialog where you can select a target to build. Yes, yes, yes... You can also select a target bigsmile!!

This feature will work with any common Linux source deploy. So now you can simply download those tar.gz, uncompress them, with just a right-click wink, and build them with another.

Hope you enjoy this lovely and simple feature!

Update:
This feature is provided by an extension called Bulldozer, that you can find at the following repositorie: "http://asher256-repository.tuxfamily.org ubuntu main french".

Trev writes: What version of Nautilus has this feature? My version of Nautilus is 2.18.0.1. Ihave just upgraded my Edgy to Feisty so I should have the latest Gnome and Nautilus. I can't however find the Open in Terminal and Build Project options. Thanks Trev

Trev:
-"nautilus-open-terminal" is an extension that u can find in Synaptic, under that name.
- I'm using Ubuntu Edgy Eft, with Nautilus 2.16.1. Make sure you right-click in a folder with a makefile.

Hope it helps!

trev writes: Camus Thanks for that - I see a few other useful nauttilus extensions in synaptic. I did try right clicking a folder with a makefile - but I will try it again. Cheers Trev

If you read my update, you'll see that this feature is provided by an extension called 'Bulldozer'.

I'm glad I've helped,
