Sharing Thunderbird in Linux and Windows

For those, like me, that are tired of booting Linux (or Windows) to read your mails here is a pretty simple solution if you're a Thunderbird user (or wanting to become).

This is what you need:

With Ext2 IFS you can mount your ext2/ext3 partition as a system drive. You will be able to use it as any other NTFS or FAT partition in Windows. Be careful cause mounting your linux partition in windows leaves it open, which means that any file is modifiable, so I suggest that you create an additional partition to share your mails.

After you have installed Thunderbird in both OS, you have to move your thunderbirds' profile to a share location in the linux partition (i.e /usr/local/share/thunderbird/). After that you have to modify your profiles.ini file. For every profile section that you want to share, you have to specify where it is, like this:

[Profile1]
Name=camus
IsRelative=0
Path=L:\usr\local\share\thunderbird\profile
Default=1

Launch Thunderbird with the modified profile and enjoy your mails.p:
