10 Best Albums Ever

A few days ago Quentin S Crisp blogged about Desert Island Discs and asked for peoples 8 favourite all time tracks. This got me thinking about my top 10 favourite albums of all time so here they are with a few notes attached, please feel free to add your own lists.
David Bowie - The Rise And fall of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
Took rock into a whole new world, this album started Glam Rock but unlike so much of that genre it was a musical masterpiece
Genesis – Foxtrot
Gabriel at his peak before Genesis sold out and went mainstream and it contains the 20 minute gem Suppers Ready
Jethro Tull – Aqualung
“Sitting on a park bench eyeing little girls with bad intent” my god he would be arrested today for lyrics like that but Aqualung whilst superb musically is all about the lyrics.
Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin 4 (The Runes Album)
They are my favourite band of all time and this has Stairway To Heaven on it,enough said.
Man – Be Good To Yourself At Least Once A Day
Who you are saying,a band from South Wales who are almost as high in my affections as Zeppelin, musically innovative and highly skilled they are the masters of the 10 minute prog rock track and I have seen them live more than any other band.If there was any justice in the world they would be one of the biggest bands of all time.
Meat Loaf – Bat Out Of Hell
I still get a shiver down my spine remembering the first time I heard the title track on the Old Grey Whistle Test, operatic rock by a really larger than life character and a big thanks to the often forgotten Jim Steinman for his writing.
Mike Oldfield – Tubular Bells
Ok so everybody has a copy but that does not stop it being an instrumental tour de force and I can still listen to the wonderful Viv Stanshall )Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band) narrating the end of side 1
Osibisa – Osibisa
Me and my mate Dave James stake a claim to discovering world music long before it became fashionable, this band were a mixture of Africans and Caribbean's who played what they described as “ Criss Cross Rhythms That Explode With Happiness”,they really were.
Roxy Music – Roxy Music
As with Bowie glam rockers but again totally innovative and that first album really is a gem full of changing moods and rhythms
The Who – Who's Next
For me the perfect album without a duff note let alone a duff track,a much more melodic Who throughout the album with gorgeous moments of light and shade but returning to their rocking best with the tumultuous “Won't Get Fooled again” as the final track.
Now looking at these you will say does he ever listen to anything from outside the 1970's? Well I love lots of music from the 1960's to the present day but I still await anything from outside the 1970's to match these 10 in my humble opinion.
