Gotta update this

Like the title says, gotta update this. Will do after Wednesday, 2 F1 races already over, I'm behind the curve.

Back with an EEE PC!

Happy New Year etc etc. 2008 is finally dead rip But in better news I just received my shiny new Asus EEE PC, and it's in black  Let's tell you why it's so cool (insert pic of a listening smiley here)

Firstly it's no bigger than the manual it's come with. So it is damn small, but it has fairly high build quality. No bits and pieces dangling about, a pretty solid unit all round, despite being less than a kilo it still feels very sturdy.

The screen, resolution is 800x400. Hardly something to brag about but once again on the small 7" screen it looks like a much higher resolution. Text is highly readable, even from about half a metre away. The screen is impressive.

The processor, haven't really tested that out much but hey, it's a netbook, not a gaming powerhouse.

Operating system is unfortunately Windows XP :eyes: Yes I know what you thinking, what's the point of getting an EEE PC if you have Windows running. Well it was solely chosen for the purpose of setting up peripheral devices. I've tried setting up devices through Linux and it's not fun. Give me a month with XP and after a month or two I'll have PupEEE Linux running.

Now the keyboard and the trackpad. The keyboard is small and if you have fatter fingers you will probably be living in a nightmare if you try typing on this machine. But if like me your fingers are fairly normal you will be able to adapt quickly. If you're a touch typer the problems that you will run into is overshooting key due to the compact layout, but nothing an hour or two wont let you get around. The trackpad like any other, can't really complain about it since I only use a desktop mouse.

Sound is okay, nothing special. Also due to the screen size you have to scroll up or down to display a full image. For example, the standard windows desktop, you have to scroll down to see the taskbar and back up to see the full desktop. You can complain about it but it's rather that than them trying to squeeze everything into one screen where you can't read or see anything.

This will continue later

Ok there is a problem. I think it has a virus and they didn't send me an XP cd though it has XP on it. :insane:

I think a full format is in order :frown:

Update 2009/01/23 : Well been running it for a week without having to format on re-install anything. It's all good.

Master Chief will be back in '09

Blog update

Sorry the blog has been neglected. I was sick from sunday. Had the flu. I was last sick just over a year ago. I get sick twice a year. Once in January and once in August. But im 90% now.

Two race reviews due. I have to write them before this weekend's race. Formula one is in a mess right now. Also need to do a post on rss feeds. And also a post on my culinary skills. Yes i tried cooking.

Hopefully will get round to them all in the morning.

LCD 17 " wide screen

Well after my 17" CRT monitor gave in to old age I had to dust of the 15" CRT and use that as a temporary solution. In a dramatic turn of events I received a 17" wide LCD screen and this thing is amazing. Yes I've joined the modern world :D

On my old 17" I ran at a mediorce 1024x768 resolution, well it was really old like i said. Then came along the 15" which as small as it was allowed me to run at 1152x864 comfortably...or so I thought :insane:

I'm using the 17" wide LCD and I'm running at 1440x900 :yikes: This screen is so bright it's blinding and yes I have turned the brightness down to zero. The colour is so vivid, it's such a sharp image. I'm used to using LCD's at work but that's just looking at code and other crap all the time and they are the standard LCD's not the widescreen version. At home, it's like a whole new world. I'm definately getting a 22" wide LCD next. Widescreen makes a huge difference.

In MS Excel 2007 (OpenOffice is a bit buggy, at least the version I have) on my old setup I used to get columns A to O and rows 1 to 25...now I get columns A to V (the 22" will definately go till Z) and rows 1 to 32.

It's just so new and shiny

Midnight snacks anyone?

Its 3AM and i cant sleep. Partially because im a part time insomniac. But at this stage its mostly because im terribly hungry. My stomach is actually conversing with me.

I just raided the fridge and found some cheese. I didnt wanna eat biscuits or anything like that so cheese was the best bet. That cured the hunger for now, long enough to fall asleep i would hope.

But now as i type this on my mobile, yes im using opera mini, you didnt think id actually wake up and switch my pc on now did you. Yeah anyway i feel a throbbing headache on the way, its right at the back of my head.

Recently I've been picking up an unhealthy, constant, need for painkillers. Well Max Payne is addicted to painkillers and he's like uber cool. Can't wait for the movie.

Accident

,

Well i was just in an accident. I stopped at a stop street and some fuckers decide to rear end me in their scrap golf. Bunch of kids. Also a cop car drives up next to us after the accident and tells us to move. Instead of helping both the parties these knobs are trying to move us. Well i told them off. Black cops are fucking retards! Anyway, my car does not have a scratch and the other car had both its headlights pop out and their bumper go in.

My car is unbelievable

Yahoo actually helped

,

But wait. I finally managed to find a email address to get some yahoo support. And guess what, they replied, within 24 hours like they said they would. They even fixed, what they broke! It doesn't change my view on yahoo but hey, it's working again. That mean's Flickr is working again. That means I can take pictures again and upload them to Flickr, instead of Ovi. Yes I can be mainstream again.
