<Echoes Of The Rainbow> movie review

The Chinese name of the movie is <岁月神偷>,which means "The thief master - years". It also conveys a meaning of "the thief master of the years". So when the first time I heard of the movie, I thought it was about a thief who was very good at stealing through years. But after watching it, I found out it was totally a different story. It was a touching one.

100% made in Hong Kong, it was based on the experience of the writer/director Alex Law. The story was about a family who live on making shoes went through the test of life and love.

At the very beginning of the movie, the camera brought us back to an old Hong Kong in 60's. The whole story was told by a 8-year-old child named Law chun yee, who was a very naughty primary school student. He used his own child way to express the story of his family and his feeling. His father was a hard-working shoe-maker. His mother was a smart and virtuous housewife, who was known as "Ms. Robin Hood". His young brother Desmond was an all-around student, who performed well in both sports and study. He was the hope of his family, and he was also the pride of the Wing Lee Street he lived. Though was poor, they all happily lived in their small shoe shop.

However, a sweet and pure first love between Desmond and a wealthy daughter, an unmerciful Hurricane which spread through the whole Hong Kong, and a latent nightmare silently turn this happy family into a broken one in one night. Facing the misfortune and poverty, their mother always cheer them on believing there always be a hope. Where there's hope, there's a way. Years has stolen their happiness and their pride. They choose to fight with the years till the end and never give up. I think that's so-called Hong Kong spirit, which the movie want to convey.

Rafting Day!

Sino, Josef and I went to Qing Yuan on 12 Sep, 2010.
This was the first time I rafted. So Excited, I screamed all the way down the hill.
I went to Foshan for another one-day travel plan. It rained so heavily when we launched. Thanks god, it stopped raining when we started rafting. But it was all the same, cuz we would get wet anyway.

I thought we would go directly to raft, but it turned out to have lunch first. Before the lunch, we went a small smelly room to take a course on deer, actually, they were doing some promotion, persuading us to buy those stuff. They even gave a bowl of soup to taste. Sino and Joshf refused to taste. I had one sip because of curiousness. Ill, it was grossing..It tasted like a salty weired drink. It was a regret that we didn't have Qing Yuan Chicken dishes. They didn't offer that for our lunch. I was supposed to ask the tour guide to order that famous dish for us. It's a pity that he told me they wouldn't take away only if the MOQ was 2 dishes.... 68rmbx2=136.00... That was over our budget on food....

After having lunch, we headed to the QLX International Drifting Base. We need to take a shuttle up to the hill. Before we got on the boat, we need to wear air jacket and helmet. I picked a green helmet and an orange jacket. I will take a picture of it if I was allow to bring the camera with me.

Due to Sino was doubting about drifting or not, Josef and I boarded first. Two ppl per boat.

"Now here we go!" "Ah....""Wahhh...." "OMG!!!"
When I firstly drifted down, I felt that I was dying..lol..The water speed was much faster than i thought. It seems my heart dumped out for awhile. I couldn't even open my eyes at first several rounds. My fingers tightly grabbed the string on the both sides of the boat. Josef was not that nervous as me, cuz he ever drifted once before. He was so calm. Only I was screaming all the way down to the hill. Josef described me was in a mess. My helmet was push to different direction after every round. We got somebody attacked on the way. Some strangers used squirt guns to squirt whenever they saw ppl. We only have water ladle to fight back. Due to the watch speed was very fast sometime. One of somebody's slipper was drifted away and.....finally appeared on our boat. lol.

Around half an hour, we drifted down the foot of the hill. Then there came the problem. Due to we were separated with Sino in a very short time, we didn't have time to discuss where we met after the drifting. That was awful, cuz our important stuff(Money and Glasses!!) all put in her bag. Josef and I, two blind men blundered way back. Thank goodness. My clothes were in Josef's bag. After changing clothes, we went to drank a bottle of ginger soup. (Josef got little money on hand.) As we even couldn't find our tour we went back to the tour mates, we went back to the place we deposited. And waited there. Finally, we met Sino there. She decided to drift down in the end. A stranger persuaded and comforted her to have a try. She had a great time on the boat.

We went back to foshan at around 5 o'clock. Tried but happy.
My trip hasn't come to an end yet. I still need to go back to shenzhen that night. We went to a Japanese restaurant to have some sushi. It was on Josef (Tks.XD)

Finally, I got back to the dorm at around 11 o'clock (went to guangzhou to take the train to luohu, and took a taxi back). It took me 110.00rmb from LuoHu to Guanlan by taxi. I finally knew the cost . I was wondering the cost all the time. Thanks Tim, I didn't have any carsickness this time. Thanks for texting me all the way home. lol. Mua..

One-day trip to Zha Po Beach with Sino

I went the Zha Po Beach with Sino last weekend on Aug 23, 2010. Thanks G, it was a super sunny day. Though it took us 4 hours to get there, we had a great time there! Here is a video diary for this trip. Thanks sino for editing it. I luv it!

The last day of July in 2010

Time really flies. I've been working in our current company for almost 2 years. Let me look back to see if there's any changes on me since I came here.

At the beginning, I was calling different kinds of strangers to ask if they were interested in our products or not, just doing some promotional jobs. But now I'm an internal merchandiser, following the clients and our factory, and help my Shanghai colleague -- C.W. to follow up some foreign clients from time to time.

Such as what happened today, it was supposed to be kinda an easy day today, as not many customers work on weekends. I usually assort the files on Saturday. But I didn't do this today, I went out. A.Z. told me to pick C.W.'s client J from the Shangri-La Hotel in Luo Hu Railway Station. J was supposed to visit our factory next Thu., but he changed the plan. So I need to pick him up earlier. It took us around 1 hour to reach the hotel from our fty. He doesn't know Chinese at all(execpt "ni hao" -- hello in Chinese), that's why he stood right outside the gate and kept look around in case I couldn't find him. lol.

After we got J back to the factory, we showed him the products which had already been prepared and let him checked randomly. We had to make it hurried, cuz he had to visit the next supplier in ZhongShan at 3p.m. When we arrived at our fty, it was already 11a.m. It takes 2 hours and a half for the trip. Then, we just had one hour to check the product dimension and confirm other samples details. Thanks G we had all the things done on time. It was his first time to come to China. I hope he won't get lost. If I were visiting a foreign country, I might get lost again and again in the street and end up in the Lost and Found...

We usually don't need to work on Saturday afternoon, so I applied a piano course to idle away the time every weekends. However, on this weekend, as I saw someone need help when Im not very busy, I helped em' instead. They need to deliver the goods today. For some reason, they didn't inform the related workers to come in advance. (Workers don't work on Sat. and Sun.) They were lack of ppl for delivering the good to the container truck. Though they made calls to many male worker, the people they called had already been out or had other things to do. That's why I became one of deliverers. Finally, 6 men and 11 women delivered 400 pcs cartons from the second floor to the truck at the gate. We stood in a long line and passed the carton one by one till it got to the truck. I'm so moving for our great team-working and had all the goods delivered one hour ealier than we expected. So I couldn't help shooting some photos while working. lol.

That was my meaningful Saturday and the last day of July in 2010.

I got my camera back.

On Oct.24,2009, I was stolen my first camera while I was buying the lunch for my colleagues in the Shenzhen Exhibition Centre. It's been a long time I blamed myself of my careless, especially when I felt like taking pix but found no camera on my hand. Finally, I brought my cam back yesterday, on Jan 1st, 2010.

Stressful Life

One of my friends always looks so tired in class, sometimes she even falls asleep. Once, I told her to make sure to get enough sleep, or she would fall behind with the study like this. She explained that she couldn’t sleep well at night. When she laid down, there would be many things that were to solve, such as “How to make a progress on study”, “did I forget something important to do today?” The more she thinks of the matter, more difficult she could fall asleep. That’s what we call pressure to prevent her from resting at night. And this is just a part of our social life. It’ obvious that most students have to work under great pressure, let alone the whole society.

It’s an age of “information explosion”. The competition among people becomes fiercer and fiercer. It’s said that people’s lives now is becoming more and more stressful. Most people want to improve their lives, so they work harder and harder, and often keep themselves in tension. In my opinion, people who feel stressful could be divided into two groups: those who tend to be a perfectionist and those who can’t catch the pace of the age. The former ones often push themselves forward. They want to make everything perfect. So the stress comes from their desire. To be exact, the latter are facing lots of questions which are produced by the modern society. There are so many important things or trifles that people have to face so the stress is from the society for the latter.

Relax! —— A word which we used to talk to ourselves when the stress almost stifled us. As a matter of fact, it’s not that easy to calm down and easily escape from the pressure. Maybe the easiest way is to take a deep breath to refresh our mind. Some psychiatrists advise watching a scary movie. It’s said that our nervous tension would relax to a large extent viewing scary movies. There are also some other ways to solve the problem. A “pillow battle” was held recently in a square of a country. It provided a place for people to reduce pressure. I’d like to work with leisure to reduce the unavoidable pressure.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found some tips on stress from http://www.familyservices.govt.nz/info-for-families/skip/stress.html, it may help.

Tips on Stress

Things that could help

• Think about how you react to certain situations. Are there some things that wind you up more than others? Talk about these with someone else and think of ways you can manage.

• Sometimes just accepting "I can’t do anything about it, it’s not my problem" is a relief.

• Set realistic expectations. If you’ve got small children trying to keep the house really tidy is impossible. Set aside a time at the end of the day when you all put the toys away together.

• Exercise. Try to go for a walk three times a week or dig the garden.

• Set aside some time for yourself. Sit and read a book for 10 minutes, or watch TV. Don’t spend all the time when your children are asleep or busy rushing around trying to do things. Use that time for yourself. Unplug the phone and take a bath, write down your feelings, mow the lawn, lie in the sun, ring a friend.

• Make friends. Go to a support group, or join Play centre or Kohanga Reo. Talk with parents of the children your child plays with, as this will lead to friendships that can support you.

Things that won’t help

• Don’t be critical of yourself, no one does everything perfectly all the time.

• Try not to be aggressive towards others, take a deep breath and walk away.

• Make sure you don’t fall into the trap of not eating enough, eating too much, drinking lots of coffee or alcohol.

• Yelling can just wind things up and leave you and your children feeling upset.

• Sometimes going out and about seems too hard and too exhausting. Friends and family are your best support. If you don’t know anyone, think about places where you might meet other parents who are in the same position as you – Playcentre, Kohanga, kindergarten etc.

• Try to avoid getting so tired that everything seems too hard. Try to lie down and relax when your children are asleep. Go to bed early.

Managing your day

When children are small there always seems to be so much to do.
Try to set up routines so you don’t have all the chores piling up on top of each other. Be prepared to alter routines if something else comes up. Don’t worry about the housework if it’s a sunny day and you can go for a walk, or if someone drops in for a chat.

Setting some goals

Set priorities. Some things are more important than others, try to sort out what you really need to do and do other less urgent things when you have time. Set yourself small goals so you feel you’ve achieved something every day. For example you could aim to throw out everything in the fridge that is past its use-by date, or you could aim to spend time reading to your child.
If you are asked to do something that will make you stressed, say no.

If you’re worried

If you are worried that you are feeling very stressed, low or depressed, talk with your doctor.
"I had post-natal depression. I was far away from my family and needed someone to talk to. I talked to my GP for about an hour and when I got back to the car my partner said I was a different person."

Geordie

I took a test on mental age on line just now, but found a melody by chance.
Geordie, which is oringinated from a British folk song, is a sentimental song ever interpreted by Qi Yu.

As I walked out over London Bridge
One misty morning early
I overheard a fair pretty maid
Was lamenting for her Geordie

O my Geordie will be hanged in a golden chain
T'is not the chain of many
He was born of King's royal breed
And lost to a virtuous lady

Go bridle me,my milk white steed
Go bridle me,my pony
I will ride to London's court
And to plead for the life of Geordie

O my Geordie never stole nor cow nor calf
He never hurted any
Stole sixteen of the King's royal deer
And he sold them in Bohenny

Two pretry babies have I born
The third lies in my body
I'd freely part with them everyone
If you'd spare the life of Geordie

The judge looked over his left shoulder
He said:"Fair maid I'm sorry
Said:Fair maid you must be gone
For I can not pardon Geordie

O my Geordie will be hanged in a golden chain
T'is not the chain of many
Stole sixteen of the King's royal deer
And he sold them in Bohenny
