Black Skimmers Pt.1

The Skimmers and their babies were the last birds I took pictures of on Cocoa Beach. The reason is that I didn't notice the them until the last day on the beach, when lifeguards had tapped off the nest site. People still got mobbed by the birds though of course. The careful people like me had only one or two birds fly around them, it was impossible not to upset them. However, the less careful had nearly the colony buzz them. :eyes:

For size, the chicks are about on par with the sanderlings in the last post.

Sanderlings

I'm getting behind in posting, mostly because I haven't figured out how to organize all 1326 photos. So for now, here are two Sanderlings on the Atlantic coast. The difference between the beaches is that the Atlantic Shore has vegetation and the Gulf Shore is clean. Overall the Gulf has much better beaches, but the Atlantic has its rocket launches.

Something I haven't shown up to this point yet is the beach around the birds. I didn't dare change lenses on the fine sand, so the best landscape shots I have are merely test shots.

One last thing, I was bored today so I marked exactly where I snapped everything above. And by exact I mean pretty close

Ruddy Turnstones

It's now day 21 since my arrival back home, and I still think it's cold outside. It's kind of funny, it was 25°C/77°F today, and everyone except me was complaining how hot it was. I just can't wait for winter...

Sorry about the large amount of photos; I'm posting past midnight again.

A Short Intermission

With my favorite bird, the Blue Jay.

S/he's been visiting the backyard in the afternoon for the past three days. The first two days s/he came after sunset, today however s/he came before the sun had completely set so photography was actually possible. The shutter speed was still a bit too slow to handhold, but that's sort of the reason of owning a good solid monopod.

Now where are those peanuts?

Is that a peanut?

Peanut!

I like this shot, you can her/his tounge inside the mouth.

S/he put the peanut back further in the beak for a better grip on it.

Laughing Gull

Doesn't look like he's laughing
