Opera 9.5 on various platforms

, , , ...

So Opera 9.5 is quite an upgrade, the bookmark synchonization between browser and opera.com, via Opera Link, is an excellent step forward, just about 'revolutionary' imho. This effectively allows access to the same browser from any system with Opera installed whether it's a USB or U3 installation, or running on Linux or Windows. The user might still be limited to his/her own privately-owned systems, if one wished to avoid sharing their entire bookmark collection with the public, but it's still nice.

I've been using the skin o_simple_4_by_tosbsas-4 , partly because the theme matches the color themes of the PC's and the room in which they're located, and partly just because I think it looks so different and cool (especially on the speed-dial page and in fullscreen viewing mode.) The built-in flash player seems to work great.

One thing I've done recently that involved opera was create a small linux installation on a USB flash drive, which can be booted from directly (with newer machines) OR the same system can be accessed via a Qemu emulator for windows, to circumvent the need to reboot. Then I installed Opera 9.5 in that operating system, and with Opera Link I now have a very-functional and very moble system including access to all my latest bookmarks, etc. (If anyone's wondering what distribution of Linux I'm using, it's Puppy 4.00 with the 2.6.25 kernel, I think Puppy is probably the best choice as far as minimizing flash-writes and thusly preserving the life of the flash drive.)
