A Glance at 'The Luncheon Boating Party'

When I look at the direction of the people's faces in this painting, it made me think about how insane cupids can be. One person falling for another person in a built chain, rather than one feeling the same way. Then we have one young lady who is focused only on the puppy rather than to get love-strucken for a human. But the man in front right was love-stucked for the young lady with the puppy. Renoir must have felt very creative to add such story in this.

I'm probably like the man in the far back in the black hat trying to avoid with this whole mess, while talking to a friend who isn't even listening. Its also probable that I'm the lady dressed in black with her hands covering her cheeks.

So which character in this painting represent you the most?

The one engrossed with her dog would be me. p:

Does this mean the dog is Randy?

Randall 15. July 2007, 06:46

& i was gonna say I'm the guy looking at the girl.. but she is more interested in some 'dog' that doesn't really care for her

Renoir is one of my favourite painters p:

The dog would be just a dog... Or it could be symbolic of anything else but a human male...

I can get more excited over a material thing than going out with men. p: Even if that material thing is just a new pencil!

I think there's a name for the girl with the dog... It's gotta be called "One Sided Love"

Nita Autumnbright 15. July 2007, 07:04

Esther: The girl with the dog seems to be quite content with her puppy, that's for sure. But she'll later have to deal with the guy who is looking at her. Actually I wish I can be in her stage, although I'm probably stuck like the rest of them. XD

Hey, Randy you know there's a girl sitting next to that guy you mentioned drooling over him.

Renoir is one my favourite painter as well...actually most of my favourite painters are from/near that era.

Art interpretation...

When I was just a kid, it was all so simple... I'd just say, "Wow! Pretty!" and that's that!

Well, maybe girl-with-puppy don't want that man in her life, and that's why she's not paying any attention to anyone else except what she has in her hands.

With due respect, man-with-strawhat behind girl-with-puppy is real close (proximity wise) to the girl, so he could be her bethroned or lover or husband. :left:

I'm seeing a little too much in this piece. :eyes: My head hurts.

Nita Autumnbright 15. July 2007, 15:21

^Oh its okay, because that man behind the girl is probably admiring the girl covering her cheeks from the distance. Or perhaps he's attracted to one of the men in the hat.

Randall 15. July 2007, 17:24

could we start over?

:ko:

Esther-Sugar Winx 16. July 2007, 10:09

Man-with-strawhat is husband to girl-with-puppy. But man-with-strawhat is infatuated with either girl-covering-cheek or man-with-tophat...

That's classic!

guess I'd be the guy left to / behind the girl with the puppy. Not really talking to anybody, just thoughtfully looking out in the emptiness.

btw, do you know the movie Amélie? A great part of the plot circles around that girl drinking from the glass in front of the guy in black. It's just a cool film, besides

I just always like looking at Renoir's bunny-babes.

And my guess is that the guy in the top-hat taliking to the rather bohemian looking guy with the cigarette is probably gay.

Nita Autumnbright 23. September 2007, 00:17

@ Vivalamuerte, Amélie is infact one of my favourite movies that I need to watch it for the fourth time to see that particular scene you're talking about. I do know that her neighbor reinpaints this and remembering he had a difficult time with one of the young girl's face expression.

Probably, Edward, probably he is.
