A Minor Inconvenience

I got off work Wednesday night and began my normal 75+ mile commute to the house. (A whole other story for a different day.) Everything is going along as normal, just another boring drive home. I’m so glad that somebody decided way back in the day to begin manufacturing and installing radios that fit in vehicles. Could you imagine the places my mind would go if I had to ride with myself in a car for three hours a day? That’s a scary thought.
I get with in a couple miles (1 km ?) of my house and am approaching an intersection where I have to make a left hand turn. About ¼ mile before I reach the intersection I begin to brake and my foot goes all the way to the floor. No Brakes.
Luckily I am to slow of a thinker to panic. I began pumping my brakes and think to my self, If you don’t get slowed down enough to make the turn or if there is oncoming traffic when you get there, Just go on past the intersection. There is an old store about ½ mile on up the road. You should be able to slow down enough by the time you get there to turn around and re-approach from the opposite direction at a much slower speed.
Pumping the brakes did have the desired effect and there was no oncoming traffic when I reached the turn. And I was able to limp my truck the rest of the way home. It being dark outside, I opted to wait till morning to investigate the cause of my brake failure.
The following morning I discovered that my brake master cylinder was empty of brake fluid. I poured about ½ a bottle in it, tested my brakes and, after careful consideration, determined I could drive the truck to the mechanic.
The mechanic deduced that the master cylinder had “blown out”. His records revealed that when I had replaced this same cylinder back in November, I had purchased one with a lifetime warranty. This bit of good news meant that the repairs would not cost me anything as he was willing to warranty the labor as well.
It was late Thursday or early this morning before the part arrived so it couldn’t be repaired until this afternoon.
I did have to miss two days work, but I have the leave on the books to cover that.
So what could have been a bad and/or expensive event turned out to be a minor inconvenience.
You know, my life could be worse. Kinda glad it ain’t.
Till Next Time,
Gramps

Did you enjoy the couple of days off? Rained here the last couple of days. Wasn't too bad, though. Cooled things down a bit.

We got a nice rain last night. It made for some great windows open, cool sleeping. Temps are much cooler today, down about 10 degrees.
Hated hearing about the flooding though.
