Biking in Dondet and Dong Kong
Si Phan Don is in the south of Laos meaning the 4000 isles. It is really relaxing here. I stayed in a little hut made by bamboo. The first morning I got up at 8 a.m, which became late for me . I took a good shower to remove the antimosquitoes lotion I put on my bodies to protect myself from that nasty creatures. It was on the bank of Mekong and there are big mosquitoes swarmping on the plants. I loved to stroll around but it was rather far so I decided to rent a bicyle for a bike around the isle.
I began by following the bank of Mekong then riding toward Don Kon a petit isle over a bridge. I stoped at the the waterfall Li Phi. The waterfall gives a breataking view with fresh and clear water. The waterfall is actually inside a park and I also helped assist the birth of a calf. It was so fragile, shy and clumsy in trying to get up.
After a while, I completely got lost on the isle. I found other falls and then had to cross a bride made by 2 rail of railway with wooden board in the middles. Finally I found the way back to Don Det, and had a chance to view splendid sunset. All the scenery there was so tranquil. It was 6 p.m when I got home. Exhausted, I felt so comfortable to be in bed again.
The following day, I decided to go to visit Don Khong, the biggest isle of this achipelago. I had to take a bus but finally I boarded a boat. The cruise traverse myriads of iles, boats and daily life of local people on the Mekong river. On arriving at Don Khong I found a pretty bungalow tor rest. It was a very nice room but 4 times as expensive as my rented room in Don Det.
On Tuesday, I rented a bicycle( My thigh, knees and hands had gotten better and once again I made a trip by bike. But it was different here. Here people lived along paved road while yesterday I explored Mekong on a dirt road. I stopped to visit some beautiful ancient temple(Wat). The road was hot in the sun so my ride was very hard. Towards midday, I headed north of the isle to the village of Banns Dong only for the sight of pupil in uniform in the streets. By the time I got to Muang San, west of the isle, I was as red as a tomato. I encountered a German couple who told me that the turn I have just made was 30 km long. Wow, I thought much less. I am almost qualified for Tour de France 2009. ( to be continued)
